I played pickleball for 90 minutes, came home for an hour, then walked a mile to play PB for another hour, then came home. So 2.5 hours of PB and 2 mile walk. Yay me.
It’s too hot so my husband and I stopped playing pickle ball for a while. No gardening here either. I’m now switching to swimming. Today I did for 30 minutes, not a relaxing swim at all, I had to go to Costco.
I actually liked that hat better for running. But our REI store only had yellow, a little too bright for the vacation use I’m also envisioning.
Agree the yellow is “too much.” I like the blue a lot. The only other hat I saw that I could “live with” was dark green - not a good color for summer.
Sometimes you just have to know when to stop. We did 12 miles today (38k of steps, nearly 300 flights of stairs) First part was a long uphill to the highest point on the Coast to Coast. We then had one of the toughest descents I’ve done, it was steep and felt endless.
After that we hiked about 4 miles into a small village and since it was nearly 6pm and we had 4.5 miles left, we stopped and called a cab.
I don’t know how you’re doing these hikes day after day! Stamina! I hope you’re eating all you want to eat of the local food!
Are y’all walking with other couples or is it just the two of you?
We are walking by ourselves, but have seen many of the same folks on the trail each day.
Day 6 was blissfully short–someplace under 7 miles (but still north of 21k in steps). The terrain also completely changed to gentle rollling hills. We saw a cool cairn known as Robin Hood’s Grave.
To answer the food question, we have had a couple of nights of wonderful pub food, a night of semi-upscale local cuisine and fish and chips at a place that was voted #2 in Britain in 2020
Dang, where’s the pic of the fish and chips???
I was so hungry there wasnt time for a photo
My husband and I had the most tastiest fish and chips when we were in Durham, they were fried in beef fat. Can’t wait I go back.
Today I did 45 minutes of swimming, then jacuzzi, it’s a very enjoyable swim, I had the pool all by myself, almost paradise.
Coast to Coast Day 7–13 miles (34k steps).
A day with different terrains–rolling farmland, wild moors and pasture lands up on the fells. We spent hours simply following stone walls.
We also saw some cool archeological/historic sites.
Made a terrible decision for dinner. For every other night on the trip I did tons of research on dinner options. Tonight we went the the chip shop featured in both BBC documentaries about the walk we are doing. Food was awful and i regret my decision.
Sorry to hear about the fish and chip, I don’t always eat at a good one either.
Today I did 35-40 minutes swim, I think I need to at least do this minimum amount of exercise everyday. This past week has been hot, not good to do any garden work, I might kill a plant if I do move it. But this afternoon is cool enough to do some garden eventually. What the amount of food I eat(healthy appetite), I need to do more exercises otherwise I would balloon back up to where I was.
Keep ‘em coming! It looks so much nicer there than here. Summer has hit its stride for sure here. I’d even take a bad fish dinner!
I keep forgetting to mention that we are back to spiderweb in my face while running season. Pretty much on every run I go through something. Ick. That being said, my runs haven’t been too bad. And my workouts this week were stronger than last. They are fun and I’m enjoying it.
My husband played pickleball with me for the first time today. We played for a little over an hour. He was surprised at how much exercise it was.
I had a good run this morning. A little over 10 miles which is longer than I’ve done in awhile. And while not fast, it was a hair faster than lately. And more importantly, I felt the glimmer of the runner I used to be. Then I did stretching and abs and then the cardio flow video (day 13). It helped to loosen stuff back up more than any kind of cardio.
And now we are driving 2.5 hours each way to eat a sub. Lol. Visiting our alma mater for something to do. And we are going to buy a mattress topper for younger S’ new apartment. He asked for one and said he’d pay for it if I got it. Sound good to me.
