Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Coast to Coast Day 9 (14 miles and 36k in steps).

We climbed up to the huge cairns (Nine Standard Rigg no one knows when/why they were built), traversed some muddy bogs and descended through sheep pastures.

If you know about Amanda Owen (aka the Yorkshire Shepardess), we stopped by her farm and bought a scone.

Ended the day following a cool river

Coast to Coast Day 10-- 12 miles and 35k of steps.

DW and both really misread the guidebook and thought today would be easier than it was so it was a rough one psychologically.

Sorry for the guidebook misreading. Really glad you had such lovely scenery. Great photos! That’s a lot of miles… carrying all your gear?

I’m sorry it was a tough day, but those pictures are stunning! I love the stone bridge and waterfalls

Sorry for the misguide, the pictures are stunning Jim.

@Colorado_mom – we are not carrying our gear. The tour company that we used to pick our lodging moves our bags every day. All we carry is are daypacks with layers, lunch and water

Stunning scenery @jmnva06 !

Coast to Coast Day 11 miles officially. We explored Richmond Castle and then had to find our B&B. Step count for day is north of 33.5K.

Coolest part of the walk were the Nuns Steps which supposedly were built to connect the priory in the valley with the village up on the ridge.

The castle was super cool too.

Coast to Coast Day 12–north of 15 miles. No big hills but lots of rolling hills. Church in photo has monument to someone who was supposedly 167 years old when he died.

What has your temperature range been on this trip? Will you ever be able to go back to a 2 mile walk to a restaurant and a little bit of soccer?!

So far the highs have largely been in the upper 50s/low 60s. When we were up high it was right around 50.

I think i will easily adjust back to the old patterns

Coast to Coast Day 13–just under 11 miles. A very different walk in that the 1st 10 miles were pretty flat. The 1st picture shows what the day was like and the 2nd looks out over where we walked during the day.

If I wasn’t jealous of @jmnva06 ‘s trip before, I am now. I believe we’ve moved into the inner circle of hell here. Lows in the mid 70s with dew points to match. Run this morning was slow, but that seems to be the case lately. My Wednesdays workouts are longer cardio and they’ve been good lately. So I’m OK with Thursdays’ cardio workout feeling like poop. The lifting portion - I’m on Day 19 - was good. Somehow I can will that to be strong.

My sister has been improving quite a bit. In the beginning, she couldn’t even finish the workouts. She can now. And some exercises she couldn’t do at all and now she can! Of course, it isn’t THAT surprising. She has been fairly strong (for her tiny size) in the past. She just hasn’t done much to anything the last few years. I am glad she is sticking with it.

I walked for a mile to pickleball, played for 45 minutes, and walked back. Friend had COVID and this is the most exercise she’s had in over a week.

I got up late, don’t know what I ate, must be the peach pie, lol, but I was tired of swimming and decided no pickle ball today, I tried something different, so I washed 3 Costco containers, they were dirty with compost, but I’m going to use them to store fertilizers, so it’s not too different.
But I will do more gardening today. This is just for the morning.

It’s very cool that you and your sister are doing the challenge together and that she is seeing improvements.

Day 14 Between 11 and 12 miles. Learned on the way to the hotel (got ride from trail into town) that today’s walk has the 2nd most altitude changes of any day on the walk (fitbit say 299 flights of stairs).
