I could not be more jealous. It’s 105 here, and I want to be in the mountains so much. In good news, I’ll be in Minnesota and northern Wisconsin soon!
Here it is, proof I did go kayaking today, really just for one hour. It’s very peaceful, almost like one hour of meditation, good for the soul more than the body.
What a stunning photo! Looks like such a lovely time.
My good-for-the-soul exercise today was a brisk 5 mile walk with a high school friend I only see every year or two. It was not my longest or most strenuous workout of the year, but it was my favorite.
Thank you, we got lucky, after we did the kayaking and had a fabulous lunch, not too pricey even in this inflationary time, it rained with thunder after we were back at our hotel.
Played soccer last night. I achieved my goal of not getting hurt since we are heading out for our next hiking adventure tomorrow.
We have 12 hour drive (spreading it out over 2 days) to northern Maine and then over the weekend we will climb Mount Katahdin. Hopefully we will make it to the top-- unlike last year.
It’s very sunny today, we rented a kayak and crossed the late to the beach area, and then I spent 30 minutes swimming, it’s so refreshing, the water was cold but delightful. My husband didn’t swim because he had a cell phone with him, he didn’t want to get wet. Good thing we had a very hearty breakfast before all the exercises.
My daughter showed my husband how to take a panoramic picture, he practiced it on me. I cropped the picture down a bit, otherwise it wouldn’t load.
I am so jealous of this beautiful photos and places that aren’t ungodly hot and humid. Ugh, this weather just wears on me. This week has not been as great, but I’m getting through it. The amount of sweat I produce is insane. My clothes hanging on hooks in the hallway just leave puddles on the floor and don’t dry for 2+ days. I’ve also noticed several people out and about at oh dark thirty - people not exercising. This does not thrill me, but they mostly leave me alone. One guy was calling out to me as I started from the gym’s shopping center, so I almost changed my mind and headed into the gym, but he said he thought I was someone else and walked off in a different direction. So, I headed off in the other direction. Got in my 6ish miles and then did 20 min of intervals on the stairmonster before heading back and doing my workout in the shed gym. Today was Day 35 total body core.
Still super yucky. It was still 80* when I got up this morning and air so thick you can cut it with a knife. I actually cut short the run 15 min and spent the extra time on the stationary bike. The gym upgraded its AC and fan, so that helped. But then it was back to the un-air conditioned shed gym for the workout. Today was AAA Day 37. I think this workout in phase 2 is the hardest of all of them. They fit in a LOT of stuff in an hour. 60 sets! of 10 reps, but 48 of them are also the eccentric type (slow count for 3 down, 1 fast up). But they mostly rotate through body parts, so no rest is doable. But this one is the workout that has the eccentric tricep kick-back done in plank position followed immediately by tricep push-ups. Oof. But the sets of 10 are definitely easier than sets of 15. I worked hard, that’s for sure.
I won’t bore y’all with my weather workout struggles. Same mini long run, abs, and cardio flow. But an unusual sighting! I saw a loose big black goat. We saw him in another part of town last night and someone said they saw a Facebook post about him loose a couple of days ago. I guess nobody can catch him. Fortunately, he was already across the street heading up a big hill in a different direction. Goats in petting zoos are great. Loose scared ones running about not so much. But better than the rabid fox that was also captured this week after biting 4 people.
OMG - be careful out there. I already “worry” about you from afar, running so early in the morning by yourself.
DrGoogle123 - would you be comfortable sharing (generally) where your vacation spot is? It looks so stunning.
Be careful out there running in the dark, Classicmom98! I used to run at night all the time when I was in my 20s and my mom would worry. I always ignored her but now I get it and try to run in daylight mostly. Going to sign up for a 10k in November…
@Jolynne_Smyth, I sent you a PM.
This girl sweats easily and often. Even though I work full Time , 90%of my laundry is work out clothes. But in the summer that is maybe a load a week!
Was on vacation last week in Canada, Lake Huron. Told myself I would give myself the grace to not have the daily goals I usually have beyond closing my rings but as it turned out all the activity had me right where I usually am in terms of activity. In Addition morning runs, tabata and pup walks I also swam a lot, kayaked and did tons of beach walking.
When on vacation, I don’t worry about anything. I got back and stepped on my scale and I gained 3 lbs, not too bad.
Yesterday my wife and climbed Mount Katahdin in Maine. We did the trail that just goes straight up so it was 3,970 feet of elevation gain in 4.4 miles. Trail included long section of scrambling over boulders. This was way harder than anything we did in England. Blue line shows our path
How beautiful! I’m glad you were able to get to go up it! We were close to it last summer when we did the (much easier) ice cave hike. I would so much rather be there than here right now!
Congrats on making it to the top! Well done!
That is intense hiking!
Wow! That’s a hike!!
Checking in - Day 42 legs. My last two days of running have been really strong despite the disgusting weather. In the winter, I drink a little just because I know I’m suppose to. Now? I’ll drink 64 ounces before 8am. In any case… This morning I ran a strong 6+ miles, and then did 20 minutes at a high (for me) level on the stationary bike. Did some abs and then back to the shed for legs. The leg workout in Phase 2 is a burner.
This afternoon, I’m taking H to the orthopedist. His hip never got better, so he got an MRI. We will see what he says. The report says either arthritis or femoral necrosis. We are hoping for the former. Of course, it also says mild, so who knows. I don’t trust the doctors here, so we are going to the person who did my knee 5 years ago. I only half joke that we can drive 1:30 hours each way and still get home faster than the place down the street.
I can’t believe it’s only August 4th. I can’t WAIT until this month is over. H suggested we just remove August from the calendar forever. Sounds good to me.
Back from a 3+ week road trip (5300 miles, 93 hours in the car, still married). Saw so many relatives and friends! We really do love being retired.
Since it was such a long trip with not much exercise, I was somewhat healthy on my eating (and did food logging, mostly to keep averages accurate). But I had plenty of vacation eating/drinking splurges. Up about 3 pounds, as expected. Not quite ready to run in heat and high altitude, so I’ll have a walking day today … breaking in new running shoes. I’ll also continue the gardening/weeding marathon started yesterday evening after we got home. Happily there will be plenty of fresh tomatoes in my meals this week.
