Since I’m sure you’re all dying to know, I caved. H and I just got ours. We have our wild Friday night target runs after dinner, so I made an appointment for 7. No biggie to swing on by. My 3rd shot here in the last month lol. Didn’t feel like getting tetnus tonight though. I’ll come back some other Friday night.
We asked our nephew who works at the hospital if he was seeing a lot of flu yet. He said yeah, especially in day cares and kids. Strain B
I decided to get 2nd booster early Oct (we are flying to a late Oct wedding and were a maybe for driving to a casual mid Oct wedding). Thinking I’ll do flu shot in Nov, but I almost changed my mind on Tues when there was a free/easy flu shot opportunity as part of a volunteer gig event.
DW and I are visiting Harpers Ferry this weekend. We did a fun 6+ mile loop walk. We we from our AirBnB to the National Park Visitor Center, down to the town, explored the town and went back out to the AirBnB on a different road. There was a great presentation by a ranger and costumed interpreters to mark the 163rd anniversary of John Brown’s raid.
Rest of the week was largely typical mix of soccer related exercise
Doing a lot of walking and yoga lately. I finally made an appointment to have my knee checked out - it started hurting a few weeks ago and so I have not been running (which I miss). I keep thinking it’s getting better then I have a bad night and it hurts again.
Tried my first barre class on Friday. It;s offered at my new yoga studio, but I did my first class via zoom to check it out and get an idea what it involved before embarrassing myself at the studio. It was a bit hard to follow on line- thankfully there was one woman who really seemed to know what she was doing so I followed her. It seemed pretty challenging, but not bad. Woke up feeling fine yesterday, but as the day went on the soreness started creeping in. I’m fine today though. I will definitely try this in the studio next time.
My exercise “streak” is getting close to 200 days. (That means my Apple Watch gives me over 500 exercise calories).
I did a 2 mile run (I am not a runner and almost never run) and then 2 mile walk today.
I know this might not apply to the young’ens here but my sister is visiting and she was telling me about all these virtual classes she signs up for and does through either AARP or Silver Sneakers. They don’t seem to be taped, they are live and there is some back and forth with the class members and the instructors. You can have your camera on or off. She talked about doing yoga, zumba, strength/balance training, etc. She said some of them are run by the “New York RoadRunners” - a running group but not just for runners.
Anyone else familiar with these? I’m happy with my YouTube videos but thought that someone else might benefit from these free options.
For whatever reason, the above post jogged my memory. I now feel a kindred spirit with @FallGirl
About a month ago, I was running through our “downtown area” and the uneven sidewalk jumped up and bit me. I fell down, woof, what an embarassment. Just scraped my knees, but it sure made me feel old. I yelled “pick up your damn feet dumbass” at my myself.
I have to admit, wearing my Vivo Barefoot’s probably were the smart choice for my run that day either.
Yeah, I watch out for those uneven bumps on my sidewalk. One dumb fall and it will take months to recover.
Today I went swimming for 40 minutes, had the whole place to myself. Very nice and cool, very relaxing. I relaxed in the bubbling jacuzzi for about 5 minutes, it’s often too hot for me. I can’t stand it.
During Covid, our rec center did online fitness classes. As an 55+ student, it was only $5/week… worthwhile even in the weeks I only got to the Monday zumba class. LOVED the ability to turn off the camera. Tried to get older hubby to use the SilverSneaker/free registration, join me in class(s). Or even just join me at login/Hello time. Alas, he declined.
I hate zoom anything, told my kids not to make us do zoom with them, I think one has a free account. It’s like work. So I also bailed out on online classes, watercolor painting, yoga, etc…
We love Zooming with our kids, on the rare occasion they have time to talk with us. We actually have paid account, still used now for a few church meetings and book club meetings. But it got the most use when we had zoom happy hour with different groups of friends every Wed, Thurs and Friday night for many months during isolation. File this post under Health, Mental Health
Fallgirl - I did a free, intro barre class a few weeks ago in studio (PureBarre, a franchise). I’d done ballet for 12 years when young so thought I might be okay with it. The combo of pilates, fast yoga, and body-weigh-bearing exercises totally wiped me out! I was exhausted and my body hurt for days, LOL. I’d be interested to hear what you think of the in-studio class. It’s too pricey for me to sign up, but it was intriguing.
Yesterday was kind of a lot. I coached my 1st grade team. I don’t think I’ve shared this but their latest thing is to reverse games. For example, instead a tag game where the coaches tag the kids, it becomes a game where the kids tag the coaches. It turns into a ton of running, so by the time I was done, I was just under 5K steps.
After eating dinner, I went and played for 90 minutes. It was cold and there were traffic issues which meant the numbers were low which translated to way more running. I think it was someplace around 8K of steps.
Almost took a picture this morning, but decided against stopping. First time I’ve run from our hotel while visiting older S. I almost didn’t go, but so glad I did. Weather was glorious. Upper 30s, no wind. It wasn’t daylight when I started around 6:45. Ran for 45ish minutes from Clarendon across Key Bridge and into Georgetown. Saw a few runners on the way back, but mostly people biking for work or general life.
But a lovely morning. We are going to some of the markets today. I’ve never been. And then a DC ghost tour tonight. I’ll need a nap in between so I can make it until 11 lol
I went swimming for 30 minutes almost everyday this week, I’m down 4 lbs, half of my weight gain from my vacation. It’s certainly harder to lose weight in the fall, but at least I’m making progress, lol. My husband gained 5lbs, but already lost half of it, maybe he will lose all his weight gain in a month.
But this year, I’m skipping Halloween, too tempting for both of us, plus I have to put away the decorations.
