Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

ok, lunchtime update (my officemates now think I’m crazy). With a little practice, I was able to go from standing to lotus without tumbling backward. Getting up from lotus remains completely impossible for me (as of this moment). I’m determined, though.

I can thank yoga for being able to do this.

I can get up off of the floor without use of hands/arms but I have to do the roll thing.

I’ll try standing up from lotus pose tonight, but I don’t do a lot of yoga. I just stretch my muscle. But I’ve been practicing standing in one leg every night now, this will help with balancing.
This morning, I played 45 minutes of pickle ball, I’m glad I could run, but my knee is not back to 100%, and it’s ok, it takes time, but I keep stretching it.

Sometimes as a part of my programming, “Candlestick Rolls” are practiced.

I don’t think there’s much chance of me getting from/to a standing position from a seated position with legs crossed.

I’m going to see if I can do that - this will have to wait until I leave work, though

I can go from stand to sitting without rocking no problem. But, man, I can’t get up as easily as the woman in the video. I can get up with one hand down, but I feel like I’m putting much more weight on my hand than she does.

Those are helpful balance tests! I could do all the get-up-from sitting stuff b/c I’m hypermobile, but that candlestick move made me work! (wanted to cross feet to get up).

Lately I can feel (what I’ve heard described as) the first stage of balance issues - just a general awareness of the body in less secure positions and the desire to - say - look for a handrail when walking down steps, even if you don’t need it yet.

So I know that stuff is coming and want to prepare. Lately I’ve been walking heel/toe on the curb when walking around the neighborhood with my friends. I’m assuming most people driving by don’t notice/care LOL.

Have gone to the gym this week (first time in months) and ran with a young neighbor (also first time in months). Ha ha wiped me out!

Played 90 minutes of pickup last night. I only felt like coughing up a lung a couple of times
But I was also totally wiped out so went home instead of to the bar.

Maybe not the fun choice, but the right choice!

Struggled trying to rise from the dang crossed leg seated position for a while last night, as well as this morning. It is truly impossible for me, and I’m not sure why. My H can do it effortlessly - to him it is as natural as standing up from a chair.

I’m not used to being completely unable to do something physical. I am fairly fit, not overweight and have very strong legs. My feet/ankles seem to be unable to bear any of my weight in the movement needed to rise (pushing on them). Very frustrating.

I had trouble doing it last night too, I need to watch the video, I don’t see how.
Today my husband and I played 40 minutes of pickle ball, we played a bit better than yesterday, I was able to run faster. Very pleased with my right knee.

Friday night-DW and I walked 2 miles each way to dinner.
Saturday-- weather was terrible in the morning, but the school where a friend teaches had their 1 mile “cocoa dash” so we went and walked before US World Cup game.

For dinner we walked 3.3 to place and 1 home.

during walk I realized how sick I had been

Anybody have this? Just did $5 porch pickup (NextDoor sale) on it. New. The lady warned the dvd/instructions are missing, but I can probably find a video or something online. Seems like the base (similar to Bosu?) might be a good change of pace for winter exercise / balance improvement.

No, but I would love a bosu ball, which the base kind of looks like.

Event #1 at the Dubai Fitness Championship was a run to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building with 160 stories, 2909 stairs. With a 22 lb weight vest for men, 15 lb weight vest for women.

So always looking for a challenge, yesterday, my active recovery day, I donned my 20 lb weight vest and tackled the “stairmonster” machine at the gym. I finished the 2,909 steps in 48 minutes. I would have finished last. :grinning:

Really what kills me is the boredom. I don’t believe that I’ll ever do that again. Or ever use the stairmaster again.

ETA: Forgot to add my excuse. My time was slowed by the fact that I had a heavy day of squat, bench and deadlift on Saturday, which was followed with a 5 mile run in the rain.

It’s been awhile since I checked in. Finished up The Work last week and started 21 Day extreme to carry me through until our trip. Mostly I wanted something a little bit easier. The last 12 weeks my workouts have involved a ton of legs, especially explosive jumping things. I’m tired of sore legs and would rather try to speed up the running some instead of just slogging through the minutes.

This week though we were just wet and soggy. I’m sure plenty of others were in the same boat. Not tons of rainfall, per se. The world was just soggy and saturated and the streets were just wet and slippery all the time. I skipped 2 days because I was tired of sliding around. I swear some streets (and parking lots!) feel just as bad as snow/ice. Those days I did stairmonster and bike and my legs thanked me for it.

Today though, the streets dried out for my long run! Yay! Seems like forever since I did one, and I just hoped for 9 (not really long but whatever) but wound up doing 12, the first 9 of which were relatively speedy for me nowadays. Then I did abs and a 30 min yoga video from 21 day fix extreme. Can’t remember the last time I did an official yoga video. It showed. Ugh. But I guess it was after a long run.

Woof, I got my Covid booster yesterday and, post shot, they say, “you haven’t gotten your shingles vaccine yet, want one of those too?”

Like the drug addict that I am (:grinning:), I said sure what the heck, so I sat my behind in a sit on the other side of the room. Got the Shingrix shot and whoa, my right arm around the injection area is sore today.

My workout was fine yesterday, but today, I may have to pop an Advil or two today. :muscle:

I had a good day today. I played pickleball for 2 hours (it was pretty cold out and my fingers felt like they were going to freeze during the first 10-15 minutes, but they did OK after that). Then I had lunch with a friend and walked about 4 miles.

I’ve played pickle ball today too, we’re now keeping scores. This makes my husband a bit more excited about playing. It’s definitely very cold here, 39 degrees in the morning, so we get out later, not bright and early like in the summer.

Gosh, I almost didn’t run today… but I could hear you all cheering me on  It was 40 degrees and breezy. Happily retirement flexibility allows me to schedule the run during the sliver of sunshine we had today.

Gonna do some stretching next. I do a few stretches to (hopefully) prevent return of plantar fasciitis symptoms. Plus Fitness blender - tank top arms video and this lower body stretch

I’ve been listening to NPR radio (sometimes BBC), with the exercise video muted. Recently I’ve heard a lot about soccer
