Checking in. Still lots of soccer coaching on weekdays and weekends. The upside is I’m hitting my step goals pretty consistently. The downside is that I’m pretty sure that coaching 4 teams is too much and I will pretty wiped out by the end of the season.
“4 teams? What was I thinking?!!!”
I had one day left on a 2-day pre purchased EPIC ski pass. I was willing to forfeit it (Covid had visited out house this winter; the pass was cheaper than one day pass bought at the mountain). Instead we just used it as an excuse for a two night getaway and rented a condo in Breckenridge about 2 hours drive. Had surprisingly good snow for late April, skied A LOT (no lines). Back home now, will be 69 degrees this afternoon.
@Colorado_mom that’s definitely a “win”.
That is cool
What was I thinking?
There was a group of 8th grade boys that had been together awhile and then some new players that needed a team. Their prior coach couldn’t coach and no parents could help. A friend that does admin stuff for the club decided she could fill in and I offered to help just to so that these guys could play this season
The world needs more parents like you!
IIRC, your kids are long gone, and you keep this up. I think that’s really great.
Thanks.
My kids are definitely long out of rec soccer. They are 28 and 25. I started coaching soccer when the oldest was in 1st grade. I keep coaching because I love the game and I love teaching it.
What a great story. Bet you are a fine role model for the kids… and the parents too.
Since back from my ski trip, I’ve done two runs (7.5k, 5k today). Today the weather looked predictable, so instead of driving to my local lake trail I did the “bike commute” (about 3miles round trip, flat and easy). Then lots of garden work. Hello Summer
After my trip overseas, I realized I need waaay more upper body strength. Been walking regularly (so cardio was okay) but really struggled lifting heavy carryon over my head on plane (multiple guys had to help me, lol). That was a wake-up call and have gone back to the gym - hope to go at least 3-4x a week!
Increased upper body strength could be a good thing/
I usually can’t get my heavy, large-ish carryon bag into the upper luggage compartments. I’m too weak/short. I did learn on CC threads there is a little step thing at end on aisle seats, but I would be unlikely to be coordinated enough to use it. If my husband is along, he handles my bag. If alone, I have to rely on the kindness of strangers. Luckily I’ve learned that my tall son is a willing and frequent airplane luggage helper to strangers… makes me feel better about needing help.
I’m always the person who helps pick up/get out things from the overhead bins - even the full sized suitcases on trains. I think one trip I helped 5 strangers, lol.
Well if several guys had to help, maybe your luggage was just too heavy!!!
Or… she’s just so good looking, all of them rushed to help!
A long time ago, my tire shredded (on older S’ bday!) while driving the kids somewhere. I had to pull into a Mexican restaurant. Just so happened that 4 guys from a car racing crew (wearing their work shirts) were leaving. They all rushed to help the mom with 2 little kids! And they all struggled to replace the Chevy Lumina’s tire, lol…
I don’t know if you folks know this or not, but I’m a big proponent of lifting weights.
Those stinking lug nuts! No power tools at the Mexican restaurant
Another bump in the road (literally). Three weeks ago yesterday I tripped on a run and skinned my knee. It was fine, I could still walk well and run (a pair of nice running tights bit the dust, though). One day later I was on a long walk when I rolled my ankle. Happened to have a doctor appointment the next day anyway and was diagnosed with a sprain. After 2 weeks of rest and icing, I am progressively walking more and returned to yoga. I will likely try to run a bit this week.
It’s been an interesting year for me with illness/injuries but I keep getting back up and trying. I was very sick with Covid a year ago and never imagined that I would still be battling different stuff. Hopefully this is it at least for awhile!
Over the course of days/months/years I think that is an important component of fitness and wellness/health - the ability to get back up on the horse again - to restart when and where appropriate!
I know you said you do yoga. Do you any work specific to working on balance? My trainer always makes sure we do at least one balance exercise each session. I def have caught myself a few times when I don’t think I would’ve in the past. Very, very thankful.
