They touch on this briefly in my yearly workplace drug & alcohol training… It has something to do with the way women’s bodies metabolize alcohol vs men. It might be our overall higher fat content, more than just strictly weight.
Yes, there are studies indicating that alcohol might mess up estrogen metabolism.
I did it…
Went 365 days in a row exercising at least 500 calories a day. I didn’t start with this goal, but eventually it seemed like a fine idea. When I retired a little over 2 years ago my goal was to exercise most days, generally biking (indoor/outdoor/@18 miles) or walking (@4 miles). Last year I started playing pickleball, and I typically play 3 times a week now, usually 2 hours or so at a time.
Great exercise week. Soccer on Tuesday was my usual someplace between 7 and 8K steps.
Wednesday-- we had theater tickets and subwayed downtown and walked to subway.
Friday–D2 was here so we went and did ~3 miles and then walked 1 mile to dinner.
Saturday-- went to the zoo with my niece and her kids, went and saw a friend and then went to a soccer game. Final count was 22K of steps
Biked outside today - just about 10 miles around my neighborhood. I haven’t done that for a long time.
Well my streak continues, but I’m not worried about it any longer.
I rode 42 miles outside yesterday.
Will be playing pickleball today, in the wind.
This is probably more proper for the get it off your chest thread, but it’s sorta health related. Just had my service award lunch (25 yr 8 mths). When the top boss asked my number of years, he was like really?!!! No way. Later another was like - you must have started REALLY young. Not really. I already worked for a consultant for 3 years after graduating college. Just taking care of yourself makes a big difference. Hair dye and make-up doesn’t hurt either lol.
And I’m still doing my same old same old. I’m about to go for a walk since I don’t count a mandatory lunch as a real break
Now on day 379, but would be fine if I missed a day. I played 2 hours of pickleball this morning. I rode my bike 24 miles yesterday. Not sure which thing aggravated my always hurting somewhat shoulder, but I had to ice it this afternoon.
That shoulder! Just seems to get irritated now and then?
This weekend is our local marathon . I usually help with it but didn’t sign up this year. Thinking I’ll head up to Ann Arbor tomorrow to shop for some new fitness clothes. That counts toward exercise , right?
Did a 5k run this morning before work and between the rain I’ve walked our dog and our grandpup another couple miles today.
Shopping = exercise.
Shoulder has been a problem since the 80s, when I lugged huge computer manuals around. It’s my right shoulder. I’m left handed but only write and eat with left hand. I considered trying to play PB with my left hand, but it’s too late for that now. (Rest of my group has advanced and I would not be a good player).
Speaking of new fitness clothes, I bought some new shoes last night.
Must have been bored, but I hadn’t bought a pair of shoes in a while, and I wanted to try some Merrill’s, the Vapor 6. These are a “barefoot,” “minimalist” type of running shoe, which I also use for lifting and training. Low stack height, lightweight, zero drop.
I took yesterday off and this week is a deload week, so lighter loads, working on different/new things, like today’s programmed 5x5 sumo deadlifts. I normally conventionally deadlift.
Schedule and weather concerns kept me from doing my planned run today. I was procrastinating over whether to do a bike ride when I read your post. THANKS for pushing me into decision. After reading about your day decided I could do a small thing, biked 7 miles. With the proper layers for the breeze it turned out to be a fun workout.
And yes, shopping can be a minor workout. Had over 4000 steps the other day going though a mall and a few stores.
These are really good looking shoes!
Lol, I’ll definitely be exercising BEFORE I go shopping !
Thanks! I wanted the purple bottom ones, but those are the women’s versions. I guess men don’t buy purple shoes.
Nice shoes. My husband likes to hike in an earlier version of these. and ! But he claims they are awesome for that. Has not had any issues.
This just blows my mind. So amazing. Sometimes it’s not so easy to beat grandma!
Amazing!
This is another amazing story from Boston:
That’s pretty impressive! Thanks for posting.
Meanwhile this 60 year old plods along, with an 8 minute KILOMETER pace as goal (sometimes faster, sometimes slower). Still I’m happy to be able to keep getting outside, staying off the couch.
I want to be Jeannie Rice when I am 75. Just sayin…
