Nice to hear the updates. @abasket - I’m very impressed with your weekend mileage!

It’s a good thing there is a lot of gardening opportunity now because I’ve taken a short pause in running. Last week I had a day or two of minor pain at top/outer part of my leg. Not sure whether to blame the 7000 of steps while shopping (including shoe hunt) with sloshy old loafers or the time shredding leaves with a device really to tall/heavy for me. All has been fine for the past few days, but I am erring toward caution. The trip for son’s wedding is in a month.

Same old stuff for me. I am on 396 days of my little streak. I am Ok any day now if I miss my goal.
We had a really nice bike ride on the Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, with a crab lunch to go with it. The weather was spectacular that day.

Flying Pig marathon on Cincinnati yesterday - what a freakin mess

If you’re properly prepared, expecting heavy rain, then sure, OK, I have waterproof-ish barefoot/minimalist running shoes. But the temp would be the key. If it’s cold and rainy, then I’m out. :grinning:

As for updates, well, you know, same old, same old here. Started a new 16-week strength cycle today, called the Juggernaut Method. The great thing about this program is it allows for other movements like Oly lifting and CF.

And I’m well into my prep for “The Murph” on Memorial Day.

abasket - your 12 miles a day is more than I did when walking around Italy all day!! Good for you!

My leg seemed to have a minor pulled muscle last week, but after rest from running (but a lot of gardening) I was back out at the lake trail today. All seems ok - phew.

Somewhat related to Fitness, Nutrition, Health? Swimming>Swimsuit>Body Image?

Martha at 81 appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

I have mixed feelings on the MS cover. On one hand I have never been a fan of the swimsuit issue thing, many times it borders on soft core porn. OTOH, I do appreciate the diversity and acknowledgement that older women look good. And Martha looks great!

I would say I agree with you. I don’t know if this is the usual protocol (because following the SI swimsuit editions is not my thing!) but I think I read there were 5 different cover versions.

I believe Padma Lakshmi (at age 52) was another.

I guess take whatever spin you want out of it!

Fun and different form of exercise last night.

I went to a 3 band ( Bedouin Soundclash, Frank Turner and The Interrupters) punk show and stood against the security fence. It being a punk show, there was lots of dancing (more sort of a jumping up and down).

Fitbit says I got somplace close to 8000 steps and north of 100 active minutes.

Also I was on my feet pretty much continuously from 4:30 (when I got in line) until 11:30 when I got back to the car.

Show was great-- Frank Turner is one of my favorite musicians and he puts on an incredible show

We’ve been in VA Beach since Saturday. Our feet haven’t touched the beach, but we’ve walked miles on the boardwalk, and ridden our bikes in multiple state parks and on the boardwalk. They have some great trails in the parks, including the one we got a flat on :(.
Today we went from Jamestown towards Richmond for 20 miles, ate lunch, and then headed back. We felt good about ourselves til we talked with another couple about our age. They had panniers on both the front and back of their bikes. When I asked them where they were headed, they said OREGON! They are from Australia and already rode the GAP trail (Pittsburgh to Cumberland MD) and the C&O canal (Cumberland to DC). They have until sometime in August to get to Astoria, Oregon. Sounds like a cool trip, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable staying at mostly free places along the way.

VA beach sounds lovely. We spent some time there were oldest was two years old and I was expecting 2nd baby. The boardwalk is such a happy memory!

The next year we went to Myrtle Beach with two kids… we learned that Yes, you can get a baby carriage and an umbrella stroller (plus two kids) onto the tram when too tired to walk the boardwalk back to the hotel.

I don’t know if this is the right place for this, but I need to share with someone and don’t have anyone else to share with.

I got good health news this week. I don’t have skin cancer.

A spot appeared on my back a couple of weeks ago. I called my dermatologist, saw the dermatologist nurse practitioner, and she said it’s benign but she could remove it anyway, so I got it removed.

I was really prepared for bad news based on other health issues I’m having so I’m extra relieved.

Anyone ever get eczema on their lips? While you’d think I’ve had every allergic reaction under the sun, I never really had skin issues until a couple of years ago. Every now and then I’d get hives, but then a couple of years ago some eczema popped up above my eye.

Anyhow, for decades I’ve been a chapstick freak. Can’t stand dry lips. But a couple of weeks ago, I noticed I was always putting it on and my lips just felt gross and gummy. Switched to blistex (H’s preference and I use it while sick) and still nothing. Then it dawned on me that it could be an allergy thing. Google says yeah. Joy. This is new. Switched to hydrocortisone and also top with Carmex a few times a day and it’s much improved. Now they just feel sort of tight.

I guess it makes sense since my skin has been been itching terribly (no hives or anything - except the patch of eczema over my eye) for a few weeks. But ugh. Allergies blow. But then it also dawned on my that it’s already mid May and I haven’t had the itchy mouth palette/ears, etc usual. It’s like I get one symptom under control and my body is gonna find a way for it to come out another.

My allergies changed as I got older, by product of menopause. That and Flonase have made things much more bearable. But it’s odd.

That is indeed great news! Skin care is an important health area many people neglect.

I’m already on Flonase and Zyrtec 365 days a year. And allergy eye drops almost every day. And Allegra during peak months (now). It keeps all of the congestion/sneezes at bay.

Well, a week from today is the Murph. O’boy!

On Saturday, I got within 2 lbs of my competition bench #, which I set back in October of 2021. And then I PR’ed on my squat, by about 4 lbs. I’m about 4 lbs from my goal.

My gym may be having another USPA sponsored competition, and if so, I think I’m ready to set a new “total” goal, which is all 3 powerlifts in a 1-day event. Even though I’m mostly focused on the more technically-driven (and more fun too) Olympic lifts.

I finished up with a HIIT of a 1-mile run, 10 rope climbs, 100 squats, and 1-mile run, with the weight vest.

Rested Sunday.
