Such an annual tradition for us to sit back, eating , and hearing how you sweated through it!!
My D24, who is prone eczema has recently developed perorial (sp?) dermatitis…most likely triggered by an allergic reaction to something. Derm has her on a course of doxycycline, which seems to be clearing it up.
I need to check with my son to see if he’s doing the Murph on Memorial Day. He’ll finish his shift at 7 a.m. that morning.
He won the overall fitness award from the police academy when he graduated last year.
Interesting… nothing to do with this thread… I can’t remember what thread it was but you said kid could retire at 50 and I was guessing cop.
Mine never really looked like anything. Below my lips gets puffy from time to time, but there was no rash or bumps. They just felt gross. But 3-4 days of the hydrocortisone plus Carmex seems to have taken care of it.
Yup, straight from college graduation to the police academy.
This will be my 11th year in a row. I’m trying to recruit a few people in my gym to do it with me.
I’ll be trying to break Sushiritto’s PR from last year.
If we’re handing out overall fitness or work capacity awards at my gym, then I win hands down. But then, powerlifters and weightlifters generally believe that a repetition count on any lift that’s more than 5 reps is considered “cardio.”
I’m flying out of town for the weekend, but I made sure I’d be back Sunday night.
Good luck! Embrace the suck.
Does anyone who has gotten back into weights/gym recently feel extra hungry? I did gym (weights) a few days in a row and was starving, lol. Don’t want to gain weight as a result of adding weights to existing cardio!
That’s helpful, thanks Sushiritto. Will have to prepare my post workout food. I’m mainly vegetarian so will give this some thought.
I think I told y’all about my crazy coaching weekend
I coached 5 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. My teams all played on Saturday and then I covered a game for friend because he and his co-coach both had college graduations to attend. Their game and my last game were on the same field so it was pretty easy to. Final step count for the day was just under 16K.
Sunday I coached twice and then walked to the Mexican place for dinner.
Coaching is going wrap up over the next few weeks
Strained my lower back cleaning out the garage a couple of weeks ago (lifting something too heavy and with poor form - I know better!). Last summer I was sidelined by PF and then a pulled muscle in my back for weeks and weeks on end, so I’ve learned my lesson. This time, I took two weeks off of doing much of anything other than walking by 10k steps and have really been babying it, even though it feels almost entirely better. Finally got on the pickleball courts today and played an hour of singles, which is probably more of an exertion than I should have done (I was expecting to play doubles). I’m feeling it a bit, so will plan to rest it through the weekend again. I’m determined to avoid another summer of injury.
Today was my first good aerobic workout in a couple of weeks as my trainer has been on her honeymoon. I closed my rings every day but mainly via walking or riding the stationary bike because some of that time has been spent taking care of my mother, and I can’t leave her alone. Per usual, I gained weight while with her, but I’ve almost lost it all.
It’s hard to be sidelined!
Wednesday night was parents vs kids soccer with the 4th graders. Lots of great running and to quote a parent “this is harder than it was in the fall.” The kids are fearless and fast at this point so anytime a parent held the ball they were swarmed.
Yesterday was the last practice for my HS girls. We just played the whole time and my co-coach and I both played. That was even tougher as they used their shoulders to knock us off the ball.
In any event 2 good nights of exercise.
That sounds so fun. I love how much time you put into coaching kids.
I remember girls soccer getting rougher than I liked when not much older than that (more so at games where there was a young and inexperience ref). One mother tried to console me, “ya know it’s gonna get rougher when they are older and playing at tthis level”. My frustrated reply, “yea, they are all of ELEVEN years old”. This was same mom that told her goalie daughter to pursue every save… if her nose got broken they’d get it fixed. In middle school daughter was in a more mellow rec league team, which was fine by me
I just continue to do my thing. 31 outdoor bike miles yesterday. 2 plus hours of pickleball today. Day 417 of my move streak. (I stopped paying much attention at 365, but I’ve kept it going).
It’s a travel day for me. So I’m taking a day off. Tomorrow, I’ll hit the hotel gym which looks good in terms of hotel gyms. Not too awful. Sunday is likely another travel/rest day. And Monday, The Murph.
I may have recruited some others to do it with me at the gym. Watch, I’ve been prepping for weeks and someone will crush me. One guy does bar dips with 180 lbs. and shoulder shrugs with 600 lbs.
