I always cringe when a few select people in our hiking club get outraged about sharing the trail with bikers.
You know, when the reaction is out of proportion to the situation.
Trail rage?

And I’m sure he wipes off the equipment after use too. Write up these etiquette rules and post them for public comment. ?
@1214mom , that guy was totally out of line. On occasions when I ride multi-user trails, there are often groups of people, going in the same direction as I am, occupying both the right and left sides of the trail. I will say “coming through” because it’s the only thing that makes sense. And even if that was not the case for you, who cares, you were still communicating!
Checking in.
Pluses for the week
Two great games of soccer
late night snacking is down
weight is down a little
Minus for the week
tonight’s dinner was at the Inn at Little Washington, while worth every penny and calorie probably wasn’t a plus from the dieting side of things
worked from home 2 days which limited my step counts
Thanks @sushiritto
@1214mom , I think I would have asked the guy what he thinks you should say.
@mom60 There’s actually two of them (Echo Bikes) now on CL.

Ya, I’m not sure what the curls do, but the man is in shape. but I like the lesson he offers:
@sushiritto She messaged them both this morning. She is in Davis and away next weekend so they might not work for her if they sell quickly. She would also like to find a better deal. She is also dealing with a really bad migraine so not sure she will have the energy to go look at a bike this week.
I had a killer PT appointment this morning. I went to Pilates after but it was a push as I had worked my glutes hard at PT.
@ClassicMom98 the knee pain is in a different part but it’s on the outside not the inside. I do know what you are speaking of though. In the past when I had inside knee pain or foot pain it usually meant I needed to work on my IT band, Hip flexors and have my psoas muscle release. My previous PT who I loved specialized in the spine. He felt a lot of hip, knee and foot pain came from the spine. I have a bad hip shift and when it gets pronounced I’m usually in for hip pain. Right now I’m having a lot of groin pain and limited range of motion on one side. I can’t lower one leg in the cross legged position. Working on a lot of stretching, strengthening the glutes and lots of bridges. Before I found a good PT I averaged 4 hip injections a year for bursitis. I haven’t had a hip injection in almost 4 years.
I live in a community that has dedicated horse trails. The equestrian people do not like walkers or runners on the trails. As less people ride horses they have loosened up on the runners and walkers but they aren’t happy about it. Bikers are not it allowed on horse trails. We also have nearby trails that are hiking trails but mountain bikers also use a lot of the same trails. They have tried in the past having days for biking and days for hiking. The courtesy is for the biker to have a bell on their bike so the hiker can hear them coming. Bikers should ring the bell also coming down on a blind corner.
My sister loves Pilates so much she gave me a package of 6 classes for Christmas. I’ve been to 4 of them so far and although the workout is fine, I just feel like it’s not a group of my peeps. My sister had no way of knowing since she lives across the country so was buying blind, but the studio the package is for is right in the middle of what can only be described as a huge concentration of very dramatic trophy wife types. And as Ali Wong so aptly describes in her awesome standup routine… to be a trophy wife first you must be a trophy. And I - like Ali - am less of a trophy and more of a commemorative plaque.
I swear the elaborate outfits and full makeup are insane enough, but some of these women are so dramatic, I have wondered if they think they are being filmed for some reason. It’s awesome people watching but not exactly the type of workout I prefer. Guess I’m more of a run through the neighborhood and sneak down to flip the abandoned tire kinda girl.
When I’ve used up my 6 free classes, I’m not sure if I’ll try another studio to see if there’s one with fewer Housewives of {city} types or just move on to another type of workout. It seems like good core but I’m missing whatever it is my sister is in love with.
I admit I have done no research ahead of time, but some of you are so knowledgeable I am hoping you can point me in the right direction.
Is there an app for measuring speed you’re going on a bike and the total distance (per day, or until reset or something like that). It might also be good to be able to tell us directions if we download them from somewhere, but that would be a bonus. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles, don’t need to measure my heart rate or cadence for example.
Any suggestions?
If I need a bike computer, any suggestions that will stay current for a couple to several years? (I am hoping to retire next year, and then may get more into biking and it might be worth the investment in a computer).
ETA I don’t want to spend a ton of money on this if I do wind up purchasing.
Thanks
Went down to the work gym after lunch and did 35 minutes on the elliptical and lifted a few heavy things. It’s raining and gloomy outside, so I didn’t feel as bad about not being able to run. I’m sure @MichaelNKat can help with the bike computer question.
@1214mom this is probably not super accurate or may be too basic for you but on my RunKeeper app (free unless you want premium) you can track individual activities of anything from running to cycling to rowing and you can also set goal for distance or other things.
So for instance if I bike for a half hour it will show me that in 30 minutes I road “x” number of miles at an average speed of “y”. I could set a goal to ride 500 miles for the year (or any amount of time you choose) and each time you ride if you choose “Cycle” it will add to your running total.
Again, basic but would give you some info. It will also map your ride when you finish since its using gps.
Mish mash today. 2.7 mile walking 1.20 before work and 1.5 at lunchtime. Came home, it was raining so a run was not going to happen. Decided to do a strength training video. Realized that I now have a Roku TV (type of smart tv) so I can pull YouTube up on the big screen. Life changing, duh, over my laptop!
Added a 20 minute weight workout and then a 20 minute cardio workout.
@1214mom , in the world of bike computers, the “go to” brands these days are Garmin and Wahoo. You are looking at a cost of anywhere from $50-250 and up depending on the features you want and whether you want full GPS navigation with maps.
On the Garmin side of things, look at the Edge 130 (full bike computer plus you can download routes for turn by turn navigation, but no mapping) or the 520 or 530 (full maps for navigation). You won’t get away for less than $200 retail for the Garmins. I bought my daughter an Edge 130 ($200 list) and I like it. The 500 series are more expensive.
On the Wahoo side of things, look at the Elemnt (yes, that’s how it’s spelled) series. The Elemnt Mini is on sale for $50. It’s a basic bike computer without navigation. I have one on my race bike and it does the job very nicely. The remaining Elemnt models have GPS navigation with maps and list at $250 and up.
If you decide to get any of these, get it from your local bike shop. They can help you set it up and explain all of the features. Bike shops have more flexibility in discounting the Wahoo products than the Garmins.
Another alternative is to buy the Wahoo speed and cadence sensors and down load the free Wahoo app to your phone which you would mount to your bike. You will need sensors anyway if you buy a computer and the Wahoo sensors are compatible with Garmin. The Wahoo app will give you all the basic bike computer functions you would want.
Hope this helps.
Ran 2.25 miles today, no walking. Legs feel pretty good , it’s getting my breathing back that always takes a while. It took me 24:41 to finish, which is slow compared to the 9-10 min/miles of my pre-injury days, but I just have to remember to be glad I am out there at all and not worry about pace at the moment.
Strava (free app) and Map My Ride) free app should be fine for your needs.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve looked at bike computers, but so far I’ve managed to hold off.
The weather/daylight situation didn’t allow running. So I did another session on the trainer bike. On MyNetDiary, I logged as 42 minutes of light session of stationary cycling. But the real unit of measure is “another episode of Grey’s Anatomy”
5 mile treadmill run this morning. It’s now light enough to start running outside in the morning but it was foggy today.
Unfortunately I feel like a cold is coming on. Today’s my work from home day so I’m drinking lots of water and tea.
@Midwest67 Got my Vit K and started taking it. I’m on Day 3. Giving up exercising for Lent, more or less. I really am not supposed to do anything with this stress fracture and I’ve been coming close to the line, and I really want it to heal well. So- won’t be a fun few weeks. I began this program with two huge pastries from a great bakery after Ash Wednesday church. THAT has to stop, too!
