Right. I cannot afford it! Ever so often, there are client spots available for the interns to coach. I seem to remember that being around $110 per month.
The service BLOC is offering is comprehensive with that personal concierge touch.
Your coach will not only do your programming (some people need and like to be told exactly what to do) but each (videotaped) lift of each training session is reviewed.
Initially the business grew with clients all over the world who did not have access to a decent barbell coach or gym in their area.
I trained last night, but UFF. Motivation was tough to muster. Just wanted to sink into the couch and sulk. But I did it.
Does hitting the grocery store count as a workout?
I was thinking that since it’s raining I might do nothing today, but I’ve been inspired by you people to get some kind of workout in.
@Midwest67 My old CF gym was $226/month and you got live coaching. I left it because it’s obviously very expensive, but also due to the programming. I’ve been getting programming online for several years now for about $40/month. And you can send the coaches videos if you desire. However, I usually take a video of myself and review it after lifts and know exactly what I did wrong, if anything.
If wanted to spend the big bucks, like Westiminster or Barbell Logic, then I’d see if Greg Everett of Catalyst Athletics has room in his stable. But he only knows Oly lifting. He’s clueless about programming anything else, like a WOD.
WHat I’ve found over the years is that I/you can find an expert in powerlifting (squat, deadlift, bench press) OR Olympic lifting (snatch, clean, jerk) OR Gymnastics OR CF. But rarely can you find someone with expertise in all four disciplines.
That’s why I subscribe to two programs at the moment.
I am in a safer at home location and I’m trying to be a good citizen. My PT has closed for now but I have a lot of exercises from the last year in my email box and in video that we took to help me do them right at home. I think motivation when exercising alone is hard for those of us who aren’t runners. I miss the support and encouragement from my fellow classmates.
I’ve decided that I’m going to try to keep my routine. I normally go to group classes at a certain time. On Monday that is usually in the morning. Today I got up and put my exercise clothes on. I have hand weights, a large ball, small ball, Pilates ring and some bands at home. I think I also have a 10 lb kettlebell but I’ve never used it. I also have a steep driveway and “stadium” stairs in my yard. I have steps I can do my PT step ups on. I also live in a quiet rural neighborhood where I can get out and walk. I’m figuring I’m going to end up with a swollen knee but I need to get out and move or I’ll go crazy.
My dog has some health issues that make him unable to have a leash on so I’m trying to limit my walks to my property. I’m sure he thinks I’m nuts, why is she walking up and down the driveway and around the yard. I’ve worked hard to get where I am and I don’t want to lose the muscle I’ve gained. @sushiritto my daughter after a lot of searching ended up just ordering a new Rogue Echo bike. She found in the Bay Area that she wasn’t saving that much buying used and would have to drive and pay tolls to pick one up. They also sold fast. She got it a few weeks ago and is glad she got it before everyone else figured they needed fitness equipment at home.
@mom60 That’s exactly what I would have done. I wish the Echo bike was available at the time that I purchased my Assault Bike. It’s also getting a lot of use now with all the home workouts.
“Does hitting the grocery store count as a workout?” - Well maybe… when I went last Friday it certainly did increase my pulse rate. The store was mostly well stocked, but it was stressful trying to keep my distance from other shoppers and deal with my gloves (final solution was gloved had to push the cart and grab items, bare had for cellphone/list - next time I will put it on paper).
@MomofWildChild Curry was, and also wasn’t, wearing one of those N-95 masks during his time there at the market.
I didn’t get the time to travel to that soccer field to see if they still have those outdoor pull-up bars. I’ll try tomorrow.
Today, I bench pressed to about 90%+ and then squatted to a 10lb PR, which I didn’t expect with my squat and at home. Super happy, since squatting isn’t my best movement. The day off on Sunday really helped. The WOD was 15-minutes of pull-ups, single DB squat cleans and burpees. The workout was an ascending ladder, starting with 2 of each movement, then 4 each, then 6 each and so on. A very deceiving workout.
Well, it is a good thing our Governor thinks that running, biking, walking, and gardening are considered essential activities as long as they are done at a social distance from strangers!
Everyone and their brother was outside late yesterday afternoon. Cold but sunny. I found it harder to social distance but still doable.
Today’s plan is not only for the extended walk but yard work. Our landscaping company is suspending operations until after the stay at home order lifts so I’m going to tackle some of the clean up. Figure that counts for activity somehow ; )
Yard work is indeed a good physical workout! And you will see me start to track/note my gardening, grass cutting, planting activities once it comes into play later in the spring!
Raining outside (doesn’t help anyone’s mood, including that of my younger Golden Retriever) so I went downstairs to my treadmill and did 3.3 miles of slow running. Felt good to do it.
When I got my treadmill in 2014 I had no idea how much I would really use it. As a runner in Dallas for 30 years before moving to Tennessee, treadmill just wasn’t part of my life. If I couldn’t run outside (rare- a couple of ice days and maybe some bad thunderstorm days), I just didn’t run. In Tennessee, there were more weather issues and I got older and had more need for some safe indoor running alternatives. I had that at the gym we joined, but you had to get there (problem on an ice day) and the temperature and bathroom situation wasn’t always ideal.
SO- in 2014 I decided it was time to get a treadmill. We had good basement space (unusual in our part of Tennessee) and could set up a TV etc and the space was unconditioned space (not directly heated or cooled, but stays pretty moderate). I knew for me to like it at all, I had to get a really good treadmill. I am some other friends were researching at the same time and came up with the Landice L7 and I had a convenient local dealer. I still prefer to get outside, but I have LOVED having this option. I can see out of a window into our back yard, I have a big screen TV and we have TRX-type straps, my husband’s bike and some mats and a few kettle bells and weights. I wish I had a zero runner- maybe in a few years.
Club Corona Day 6/WFH Day 1 – I may have lost my last night. Since I graduated college, I’ve been expected show up to work on time from 8-5, M-F. I’ve gone through blizzards, ice storms, hurricanes, floods, 9-11, and even a tornado. But not now. If it didn’t feel like the world is in trouble before, it does now. And, all my sense of normalcy is completely gone. I thrive on routine.
And thus, it is imperative for my sanity that I try to keep as normal a routine as possible. Of course, even my fitness plan for the week has to be altered already. I will run through rain, but it’s supposed to be a downpour tomorrow during my run. I just don’t want to chance getting sick (non-coronavirus even) and I’m already dealing with peak allergy season. So, I swapped today’s plan for tomorrow. I did another longer run today – almost 10 miles – where I get to run in 2 states. I haven’t done that in years, mostly because it’s not the best route neighborhood safety wise. It wasn’t as fast as I wanted, but I’ve been slower I suppose. Then 80 Day Obsession Phase 3, week 1 Legs. Phase 3 is hard. Lots of weird stuff with jumping. I needed that.
@FallGirl “Club Corona” is my home gym’s nickname. We have hexagonal dumbbell pairs from 5s up to 40s, an EZ curl bar with enough plates that far exceed what I need and 2 dumbbells that take more plates than I could use. We also have a commercial quality adjustable bench, and some weird forearm stuff that H uses. A pull-up bar is on order and we also have ab straps. H picked up the weights ~20 years ago when Sears was having a 75% off sale. We use them when the gym is closed for weather and such. It’s great to have in a pinch, but we prefer the gym. I belonged to Old Gym from ’99-‘18 when they closed. It cost us $100/year for life. Planet Fitness is $150/year ($10/month plus $30 maintenance fee). And then my Beachbody is $100/year for full access to all of their videos. We go for cheap here. We be poor folks.
And then this morning, I set up my computer to WFH. Of course, it didn’t work like it was supposed to. Nothing ever does for me. 1:30 and a phone call to Comcast and I got it up and running, but not without a splitting headache and some tears. And now while my computer works, the cable portion of the TV does not. I’ll have to worry about that later. Netflix/Hulu/Disney does work. Older S has been watching some movie. It’s not as distracting for me as one might think. My office chatter is more disruptive.
Hang in there @ClassicMom98 - try to be kind to yourself while doing what you can for your routine. We set these goals for ourselves - we can also adjust them as needed for days that are needed - and you are no less for that.
Mental health is as important as physical health and while I know ( I KNOW) physical health helps my mental health, beating myself up to meet some charted challenge in ideal conditions - when it is NOT ideal conditions - will do more harm than good.
@ClassicMom98 - I hope things are going better for you.
I am working from home and there are things it’s just harder to do from here. H is home, but due to the nature of the job, he can’t WFH. It’s not his fault, but I have found myself resenting that I am really busy with my job and don’t have time to do all the things I want/need to do here. I have no problem filling time!
OK, so I need workouts for both physical and mental health! (clearly).
