Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I visit the Rogue website almost daily and there’s a lot of equipment that’s just sold out.

For example, I need new resistance bands. Some of the most used resistance bands are sold out. A lot of the lower weight KB’s are sold out. In fact, there was used Rogue KB on Craigslist for $150 that sells new for about $70 plus tax and shipping. Gym equipment is new gold.

My D used to ask me why do I pay for an outside gym when I have a fully stocked gym at home. If she does ever ask me again, I’ll make sure to answer “Just in case there’s a pandemic.”

The home deadline which had taken up most of my free time (getting our house on the market, yes we have the worst timing) was accomplished and life is now more sane. I have been able to get a workout or walk in most days. Still some outside jobs to do next weekend, but my time is more flexible.

During the work week, if I don’t get a workout in in the morning, which is my goal, I can find a hasfit video that fits a free slot between meetings in my day. I also have a yoga site I am going to use, and DH has shown some interest in trying some too, so we’ll start with beginner ones and ones for injuries (he sees a chiro and has constant aches and pains) I found Les Mills has some streaming programs, I haven’t done bodypump in years and I did one today, using dumbells instead of a barbell. It was challenging so I will repeat this one until I can do it much stronger.

And the weather is generally warm enough for walks, I took a 2 hour walk on Friday in lovely weather.

I’m doing weight watchers virtual meetings with a good coach from the local studio, I don’t think our at work group will start again when this is over, we were having difficulty meeting the minimum and the organizer is not continuing. I hope to continue making good progress towards my goal and then just have a small bit more to regain my lifetime goal.

@jackief that’s a great roster of effort - well planned! Nice variety too.

My new (cheap) rower arrived! I have opened and unpacked the huge cardboard box, all the while being careful not to touch my face – moved the cardboard & other packaging out to the garage for the requisite 72-hour quarantine on cardboard… but I have not yet attempted assembling the rower. Time to take the dogs out for a walk instead. Dogs are disappointed because typically a very large cardboard box arriving on the front doorstep will contain a very large bag of dog food, and it has already been determined that the very strange object that mom has unpacked is not edible.

Weird confession time - I like assembling stuff. When I asked DH for a new Weber gas grill, I asked for him to order me one so I could put it together and know how it worked. DS thinks I should apply for a job at Home Depot or Ikea putting together displays. I’d enjoy that. Maybe a good part time retirement gig.

Well, it turns out that this thing does not require an IQ to assemble. Or extra tools (beyond what is supplied). So it has been put together and tested – not the same as a Concept II but it will do for now. But I only rowed for 3 minutes because it is still the first sunny day in ages with daylight remaining here on the west coast, so I’m going to take another walk to the ocean (I live about 3/4 of a mile away from the sea – far enough that I don’t have an ocean view, but close enough that staying indoors on a day like this doesn’t make much sense).

A lot of retailers have assemblers @milee30 ! Sounds like a great part time job for you!

I would love that! But I know from many, many, many years of experience in the workforce, in sports situations and just interacting at the hardware stores, people (even women) never, ever assume tiny, blonde women are in any way mechanically capable so I wouldn’t even get an interview for that sort of job. I’m beyond tired of it, but it is the way it is and probably won’t change before I’m long dead and gone.

In case anyone is interested – 24 Hour Fitness sent me this schedule of online classes for the upcoming week. Free on youtube, 24Go Live channel. https://static.24go.co/files/pdf/schedule.pdf

10 miles out and back run socially distancing with a very few of my friends. I waited around for awhile so I could see 2 of my friends finish their respective first half marathons! I took their finish line photos and cheered them in. It was so fun to return the support I had gotten from them last week. Next week it will be 2 more friends from this group running their own first half. We are getting it done! (with social distancing, of course!).

The TV in the “workout room” previously known as the guest/bonus room with the TV and game systems and guest bed is not smart and using youtube through the tivo mini wasn’t cutting the mustard. So we will move the chromecast up to that TV and do streaming from there. Up to this point, I had been taking my laptop in there. The coffee table is also the weight bench. I can’t do major layout changes and trying to avoid buying more equipment, as it has to stay ready for a potential showing.

Fitting in my walks around rainstorms the past couple of days. I’ve been going out early to avoid meeting too many people. Most of the time I take our pup, who, fortunately, enjoys a brisk walk without frequent stops.

Looking forward to a Zoom Happy Hour with HS friends this evening. It’s the little things, right?

Day 12 C-Gym/Day 5 WFH - today was a mixed bag. I had to cut my run short (digestive issues). Only one of my emergency bathrooms that’s open now is the ER - and no way am I setting foot in there! I added a core video to compensate. I’m now in Phase 3, Week 2 of 80 Day Obsession. Total was AAA (arms, abs, and a**). It’s a fun one.

My favorite motivational quote of the video was “There’s a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world. But you are in control of your day. You are in control right now and you can control if you work hard right now.” Yep, that one was timely and much needed.

I’m a little choked up while I write this. The latest victim of the coronavirus is… my tire.

Went for a run around the neighborhood this morning and since it was still a bit dark and nobody could see me acting silly and getting filthy, thought I’d stop by and pay a visit to my tire. I rounded the corner and it was gone! Gone. Probably stolen by one of the people who don’t have a well stocked home gym.

All I hope is that they give it a good home. With people who love it and will treat it right.

Oh nooooo! :frowning: not the tire!

AARRRGHHH. So sad about the tire! Boo.

I’m so glad I invested in a bench and a full set of dumbells a few years ago and put in a rubber mat flooring in a part of the basement when we added on to our house. I just wish my basement ceilings were higher. I have to go to the unfinished part of the basement and do overhead presses there between the joists. The stationary bike our son left behind is also getting use on rainy days. Did both a 35 minute full body weight work out and 25 minutes on the bike yesterday. DH is down there now. I’ll probably do yoga today unless I try out something fun like a zumba workout and the weather is good enough we’ll probably take a walk.

@mathmom , if you are using your dumbbells for overhead presses, try doing them from a full kneeling position. In addition to eliminating the head room issue, it will add a lot of core challenge. Just keep your body tall, don’t lean back on your heels, engage your abs and off you go .

^^^^ Kneeling is hard for some of our old knees!

@MomofWildChild , you can do half kneeling. You can use a cushy mat under your knee.
