Hugs to all affected by this monster storm.
Just heard that a section of the Sanibel Causeway collapsed - hopefully the barrier islands 100% evacuated.
I’m in the Jacksonville area between Jax and St. Augustine. We’ve had gusty wind and steady light rain but I’m not in an evacuation zone or near the beach. We dodged a bullet here.
Our beach house is about 15 miles north of where Ian made landfall in SC. A little less than a quarter mile from the beach. We feel so fortunate today that the only damage is some water where rain came through a leaky window. A fantastic neighbor kept me updated through the day. So much damage all around, from what I hear. Feels like the area was not expecting the storm to be that severe when it made the second landfall.
Elon Musk may have his issues but he does some good things:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a Saturday press conference that the state was working with SpaceX to position Starlink internet satellites for counties impacted by Hurricane Ian.
“We’re working with Elon Musk, and Starlink satellite,” he explained. “So, they’re positioning the Starlink satellites to provide good coverage in southwest Florida and other affected areas.”
The governor said the state is expecting 120 additional large Starlink units to deploy to the region.
“they’ve donated the costs associated with all the coverage. So, we want to thank SpaceX and thank Elon Musk for that,” he noted.
I modified the title to include SC and anyone else who has been or could have been affected by Ian. It’s definitely a horrible storm where it hit. I hope the whole country continues to come together to help those affected.
