Flagler College's Sports management programme

Trizz, if you dont mind me asking, what team are you working with and how did you go about getting this internship? I’m an absolute sports freak and would love to do something sports related with my accounting degree. If you don’t wanna discuss it over the boards for some reason you can shoot me a PM. The only problem is down here in Florida, the baseball is a joke and the football ain’t much better. Wish I could work with the Yankees or Jets :)

Small-market midwest team. Basically, no Yankees or Red Sox. Small market Florida teams (Spring league, MLB, or farm league) are actually good because the potential internship programs are accessible, whereas internships for the Yankees are probably ridiculously competitive. Just browse teams websites and email HR / employment reps for the teams. Even if they dont list them online, odds are that they exist.

Yea I figured Randy Levines aren’t hired very often lol. I’m in the Orlando area, so I was gonna look into the Magic to see if they have anything. Not a huge basketball fan, but its in the area. Thanks.

…wait, so I could be an accountant for my favorite baseball team? Sweeeeet!

Never really thought of pro teams needing accountants, but I guess everyone has to keep books!

Pay probably isn’t amazing, but it would still be really to be part of an organization.

Its not exactly an easy to enter field however. Not amazing pay?! Maybe for the lower end positions, but the guys in the upper-echelons of accounting for a professional team would be bankin!!!

Assuming you aren’t being sarcastic, then yes. Every organization needs accountants, explaining why such a demand for them exists. The Big 4 is viable because even the accounting departments in the private sector are too small to handle all their tasks.

Pay for private sector accounting jobs is substantially lower than public accounting firms. But, if you end up in an industry you like, then the lower pay has a trade off.

Would majoring in Accounting/Finance and minoring in Sport Management be somewhat reasonable?

Well your minor should be something you’re interested in so if that’s what you like go for it. However, it will not give you any edge over anyone else.
