////thought this memo would be interesting for others to read.
My S's high school mass e-mailed this message. The school location is on the river on the Mississippi side of the Mississippi River in the Mississippi Delta between Memphis and Vicksburg ////

From: Rodney Brown, Headmaster

Re: Action Plan Possible Flood

Based on my conversations with those charged with the responsibility of monitoring and maintaining the levee system, I am confident that our levee system will hold. School will be in session next week with normal activities and events in place as planned. I do want our parents to be aware of the following as it relates to our decision to be in session until Friday, May 20th:

The patrols on the levee system will identify any potential weak spots that could result in a break. A window of 8-10 hours to evacuate will exist from the time it is determined an area cannot be contained or controlled until an actual break in the levee could occur. Depending on the location of an actual break in the levee, a 2 hour window to evacuate will exist. In the event an evacuation order is given, civil defense sirens will be activated, and television and radio broadcasts will announce any such evacuation order.

Evacuation Plan for Washington School

Have someone (family member or friend) designated to pick your child(ren) up at school. Elementary picked up in front and middle school/high school picked up in the back as usual.

Students that drive should be instructed to retrieve their siblings before leaving school.

The school has transportation to accommodate 150 students. After one hour, all students that have not been retrieved will be loaded on school vehicles. School vehicles will head East with a destination of Grenada.

A direction and destination should be clearly communicated to all that could be involved in picking up your child(ren).

Cell phones will be invaluable in the process to maintain communication or to re-establish contact should confusion occur.

Washington School will communicate with our parents via e-mail blast and text message blast that a break has occurred and you need to retrieve your child(ren).

The concern and stress felt by our parents to keep your family close during this time of potential crisis is understandable. Planned absences will be excused if you communicate your intentions with Rodney Brown at 662-334-4096. Exams that are missed during the time of a planned absence must be made up at a later time designated by the administration.
