Right now, two days before the deadline, I’m stuck deciding between 2 colleges: Baylor and FSU.
I’ve made several pros/cons lists and although several people have told me there is no bad choice, I still want to make the best decision for myself.
About me:
I don’t think I have a preference between mid-size and large schools, but I’m not sure.
My major would be business/foreign relations, but I don’t want to base my choice off solely off of a major because of the likelihood that it would change.
The business schools for each school are similar in ranking and in style (become a business major if you get into the actual major after soph. year), but I am intrigued by Baylor’s business program where you create a business major.
My biggest fear for FSU is its reputation as a party school and I don’t want to get lost in a world where academics are second, or feel like an outcast because I don’t party every other day.
My biggest fear about Baylor is that there is little diversity there and I would feel trapped in a college where everybody is the same in a city where there is very little to do. (FSU’s location is much better in my eyes).
I also hope to spend a semester or more abroad and know FSU’s study abroad programs are great, but I don’t know as much about Baylor’s.
I want to avoid becoming a super senior as much as possible.
I feel like FSU, as a larger school, will give me more opportunities to find out about myself, but I’m not sure.
I don’t really know anybody attending FSU next year, but I do have one friend who will be at Baylor.
I have two kids at FSU and neither of them are the partier/football types. They have completely different likes from each other but both have found and are in a number of clubs that fit their interests. They are both good students and neither have found the academics to be lacking. They have all kinds of opportunities to challenge themselves and go above and beyond if desired.
FSU is big enough that you would be able to find many like my kids who are very into their studies and not into drinking and partying every night.
(Don’t know anything about Baylor)
I’ve attended 2 schools: FSU and FIT. I guess FIT isn’t known as a party school, but guess what! There were parties at FIT! You’ll be invited to parties at Baylor and FSU. It’s completely up to you on where you go and what you do.
Don’t worry yourself about the party school stigma! Yes, we do have parties here, but so does every other college in the country. FSU isn’t a party first, academics second type of school at all. We are very focused on our academics and studies first and foremost. Another thing is who you associate with. If you make friends with constant partiers, you will be invited to many of these parties. If you don’t make friends with partiers, you won’t be. There are both types of people here at FSU and there are types that are in between.
