I'm anything but an animal rights activist, eat all the animals you want.

"Militant vegans are funny to laugh at. Calm down."

I agree! I'm not vegan though. Nor am I vegetarian. Nor am I militant about what people should eat. People were discussing healthy eating and I offered what I have found to be true.

" You don't have to lecture about the dangers of milk and beef, especially when you sound like you're yelling at people about the "dangers," instead of informing them. Actually, even if you were nice about voicing your concerns about beef, people are going to keep eating it anyway."

Of course people are going to eat it anyway, that's not the point. I'm not saying you can't be healthy and eat meat, I'm saying it's easier to be healthy and not eat meat. I'm not on a crusade against meat, I'd just rather see people better informed. I don't see a problem with pointing out statistics and facts.

"Whoop dee doo. Guess what? Most people who are in their nineties have been eating dairy foods. And they are still in their nineties. Guess eating the beef and milk actually doesn't kill you off before you hit the big 9-0."

I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of people who are in their 90's don't enjoy the quality of life that Lalane does. Again, I'm not saying that beef and milk will kill you off, but you will certainly live a healthier life without beef. No serious doctor will even contest that, and doctor's have little nutritional training anyway. You also must realize that milk used to be a lot more natural than it is now anyways.

"You know what? I know plenty of people who eat all the bread and meat they want and are still quite thin and happy. Some people's bodies are just different. They don't have to give up drinking soda-- even diet soda-- or beef to loose weight."

No, you can lose weight a number of ways, but this way is a very healthy way. Giving up diet soda is a good thing to do, fake sugar is well known for causing cancer and a host of other problems, and there is a lot of evidence that it increases your appetite. It's a given that these things will not have negetive effects on everyone, that goes without saying. Citing healthy people that eat meat, drink milk, etc doesn't really prove anything. In general you will be healthier without beef, and even without meat in general. In regards to milk, you can be just as healthy without drinking it.

"And yet many people have plenty of energy, live until very late years healthily, consume adequate amounts of iron, stay thin AND eat meat. What's your point? If you can eat meat and be healthy, and not eat meat and still be healthy, than what's to fuss about people eating meat?"

Like I said, people who don't eat meat "enjoy a lower risk of heart disease, lower risk of obesity, more energy, and longer lives." This is on average, citing 'people you know' doesn't really mean much. I am not saying that this is true for everyone, as there are exceptions to nearly everything, but in general statistics back up a diet low in meat.

"Thanks for all the "advice." But despite "mad cow and all that ****" I'm still going to the In 'N Out. I'm not convinced, especially if you're going to seem laughably paranoid about it."

shrugs Your health, not mine. I'm not laughably paranoid, if I was paranoid I probably would be a vegan. As it is I eat some chicken now and then, and I eat cheese fairly often. What you do with your life is your business, but it's hard to argue with statistics.

Thanks for killing the joke Roy.

"Thanks for killing the joke Roy."

Your welcome. :) My friends actually planned on setting up a fake corp. called "The Joke Killers" with me as the CJS (Chief Joke Slayer) after I killed so many of their jokes. I'm proud :)

The brain needs meat.

Milk is bad for you.

Multivitamins pwn your soul.

how do you make up notes/work that was due when you're sick?

also, is it good to tell the prof that you were sick or just let him/her assume you were out randomly? (provided that the prof actually recognizes you, of course.)

A lot of professors will tell you what they want you to do if you're out sick (I had one prof last semester that wanted us to call her if we'd be out; one this semester wants us to email him if we'll be out so that we don't get penalized if he takes attendance). If your professors have no clue who anyone in the class is; I wouldn't worry about it. As for work: find a buddy in the class that you can get notes from, send work in with, etc. I'm lucky this semester; my roommate and I have two classes together, and I have friends in my other classes too. If there was something due, I could easily send it in with one of them. In the first week or two of the semester get someone's contact info so you can get notes/assignments, whatever. If something is due the day you get back, professors will not usually accept the excuse that you were out. You're expected to be proactive
