focus...

just out of curiosity, is it possible to get OUT of the focus program ponce you are accepted to a cluster?

I’ve heard it’s possible, but a bit hard. Just email the person responsible for your FOCUS scheduling and request to be taken out.

If you don’t mind sharing, which focus cluster are you trying to get out of, and why? I’m in FOCUS also so I was just curious.

lol, I haven’t particularly decided to get out of FOCUS yet, I was just thinking about it. Actually, I never expected to get into FOCUS in the first place because I didn’t decide to apply until a few hours before the deadline, and wrote my short answer questions really fast to meet the deadline.
I really wanted one that had to do with medicine or health (especially exploring the mind cuz I want to be a neurologist), but I ended up in my fourth choice, which was “Medieval & Renaissance Worlds: Memory & Invention”. I have no problems against this cluster, but I just wanted something that would help me more in my major (bio). I honestly didn’t think I was gonna get into any, and now I have to decide to whether stick with this or not…

I have not heard that it was hard to say “no thank you”. I think it might be hard to change the classes within the Focus.

Hmmm…

[Focus: The Program and Process: Schedule](http://focus.aas.duke.edu/program/schedule.php)
“Students must receive permission from the Focus Program to change Focus courses during these registration windows. Students are strongly discouraged from withdrawing from the Program after registration has been completed.”

hmm.. yea. if you don’t think you’d be interested, then I guess you can email FOCUS and ask to be removed. I spoke with a rising sophomore and he said he appreciated the FOCUS program because while it is work, if you put in effort it can be a gpa booster. I’ve heard both bad and good about FOCUS so if the topic doesn’t interest you too much, dropping out may be wise for your schedule.

I’m also planning to be a bio major and premed, and because of my FOCUS courses, I can only take two classes first semester, one of which is writing 20. So FOCUS does limit my course choices. However, I was really interested in my cluster topic (Genome Revolution) so that’s why I’m sticking with it. Regardless of what you do, I think it’ll work out. After all, your FOCUS courses may help you finish up requirements early

Best of luck with your choice !
