I was wondering if coaches see that a certain athletic recruit follows their team’s social media account? If so how might they benefit the recruit other than the fact that he/she will get further insights into the team?
Just wanted to know from those have gone through this process already, if following social media accounts helped establish stronger connections (and benefits along that line).
Thanks for the advice!
My kid did follow the schools of interest to him though I can’t say it had a tangible impact on his recruiting outcomes. It did show coaches that he was genuinely interested and it helped him stay current so that conversations with coaches flowed, when they happened.
From a slightly different angle, with one highly ranked program, his knowledge of the team and understanding of its style of play, which he developed through watching game film and research, seemed to have gotten him, and kept him, on the recruiting list deeper into the process than we expected.
It’s helpful for recruits in learning about what’s going on with the team, the general vibe, etc. I wouldn’t expect it to have any impact on the coach’s recruiting priorities except perhaps indirectly, in that a recruit will know more about the program and will learn things to bring up during calls or texts.
My D follows teams on instagram and snap. I don’t think it does a lot to demonstrate interest, but it has helped her understand the team better. That understanding has been very helpful now that she is talking to coaches about their program.
Thanks for all the replies.
Even if it might not help to demonstrate interest, I’ll keep following the ones I have interest in.
