My academic capabilities are far above what my stats show. I perform well in my classes. I only got 1 B in this first semester of my senior year. I should’ve taken the SAT. My English teacher told me to do the SAT and I respect his opinion above all else, but the ACT is more the test I can succeed on with the way it’s formatted, it’s emphasis being on curricula and not aptitude

I can handle what these schools will throw at me, I can assure you of that. I have been a let-down as far as my academic prowess is concerned, but I can succeed wherever I go, whether it’s Palo Alto, New Jersey, or Sacramento. I am not going to excuse myself from fault because of something outside of my control. There are probably others who have gone through the same and still do better than I have done. I take blame for most of it. But that doesn’t mean that my spirit isn’t strong. It doesn’t mean that I can’t handle the majesty of the Cardinal or the Tiger. It doesn’t mean that I can’t succeed when I put my mind to something. And I’ll be carrying my parents with me when I go into that great unknown of college. I can succeed and I will no matter where I go

@withtheflow That is somewhat insulting to all the people who did not study and still scored well. Sure, some people are going to put in a lot of effort to prepare for the tests, but not everybody. The majority of people I know, including myself, who have scored in that range have done relatively little study for the tests beyond familiarization.

OP you’re obviously a strong person. Even if Stanford doesn’t accept you, which is a very strong possibility for ANY applicant, it won’t be the end of the world.

The beauty of holistic admissions is that they look upon hardships favorably IF you show that you have overcome/matured as a result. And it sounds like you have. Good luck Philosopher, you’ll definitely succeed wherever you end up. :)

OP…make sure at some point to post where you are accepted!!! You are inspirational :)
