Football recruit

My son is being recruited for football. He would love to play for a military academy. One of the Air Force coaches is visiting us next week. We have a few ?'s, what is the recruiting process? With football practice in July,August, and Sept. how does a player complete Basic? Is there tutoring available during football season?

Mainst.

Can't answer to the recruiting, but there is plenty of Extra Instruction for everyone . The major core classes have sent professors on away trips with the football team for tutoring. Have been a couple of trips with them many moons ago.

Football recruits go through Basic, just like everyone else. I guess they miss that practice.

Tutoring is one of the great aspects of the Academy. Most teachers are available for several hours each day. If I needed to, I could probably talk to any of my teachers tomorrow about my class work. EI is highly encouraged for anyone who feels they could use some help.

My son's roommate is a football player. He did not miss any of BCT. Extra Instruction is always available. However, the cadet has to ask for help. No one is going to hold your hand and see to it that you do your homework. Also, don't wait too long to ask for help. The academic pace is fast and demanding. I know the roommate has been excused from some of the SAMI inspections because of the teams travel schedule. That may be good for the player. I'll give all the 2011 cadets a heads up. Your roommate may be excused from the SAMI but the this does not mean the absent roommate's stuff does not need to be up to standards. It is a lesson is team work. You all must work together to get things done. If you don't, you will take the fall. If the roommate takes off and leaves you hanging.....take it up with the roommate after they get back.

I am curious about the recruitment process.

I have a general question for any recruited athlete. Did you initiate interest in the service Academy before you were contacted by a coach? Were you already working on your application flie? If not, do you still have to get a your file completed before the nomination deadlines?

My son sent an email to USAFA, USMA and USNA coaches in January of his junior year to the respective coaches. He was told from the USNA coach that it was good "for his file" that he contacted them first, instead of waiting for an invite. He was offered recruiting visits from each academy, but the coaches wanted his file completed before the visits. He completed his visits in September. He's now received 3 loa's and has his first nomination interview today.

Thanks for the information.

Momof3boyz,

Our son was contacted by both the football coach and the track coach. In both cases the discussion was initiated by our son's Academy Liason Officer. The coaches were both sent son's stats by the ALO, then the coaches contacted him via email.
