For a girl who is not change-the-world type, is Wellesley a good fit?

Our family visited Wellesley last week. Many positive take aways from the visit, but one thing that has persistently stamped on daughter’s mind is Wellesley is for women who want to change the world. While D genuinely cares about well being of the others and the world, she is not so politically motivated. During the info session, the admission presenter used an example of women in leadership positions that further reinforced her perception:
2% of women attend women’s colleges … women make up 20% of seats in congress, xx% of the secretaries of state …

As suggested by the title, for a girl who is not change-the-world type, is Wellesley a good fit? Thank you in advance.

While there is a big emphasis on politics at Wellesley, she’s not going to be left out if she is not very politically minded.

Additionally, I don’t think those stats are so much trying to depict women who will “change-the-world” (politically speaking), but rather (and more generally), women who will make a positive impact in whatever field they happen to go into–political or otherwise.

If your daughter is the latter, she will fit right in.

Agree. There are many ways strong women have impact and most aren’t the obvious public positions, political or even corporate titles But this is a case where you’d want her to show her strengths, how she has impact, takes on challenges, isnt just a ‘go with the flow’ sort.

There are so many ways to get involved on campus, and not just politically! Students here do discuss politics pretty often (not in an aggressive way) but it is a very common/open conversation. As long as your daughter is ok being around people who are passionate, she’ll be okay! Students on this campus want to “change the world” in many ways – the presidency is not everyone’s end goal, but many students here want to have a positive impact in whatever field they go into.

Yes! My daughter is an introvert and wasn’t very politically motivated when she got to Wellesley. She had a great time there, although the academic pressure was really intense. There are all types of women at Welllesley.
