For Business: UPenn vs Penn State (it's not what it seems)

So you're probably thinking I'm high or something (I'm actually not at the moment) to compare UPenn and Penn State. They're in totally different leagues, perhaps even more so for business. And I agree. They are.

However, there is a scenario that isn't so easily agreed upon...
What if I attend UPenn but NOT Wharton. Is that better than getting a B.S. in Finance degree from Penn State's Smeal College of Business? After all, penn state's smeal is ranked #21 best for undergrad biz programs by U.S. News in 2009.

in essence. my question is
UPenn (college of LPS) vs Penn State (Smeal College of Business).

Which is more likely to land me a better job afterwards in the field of finance or consulting?
What about getting into a prestigious MBA program?

University of Pennsylvania.

hahahahahahahaha

You’re not high, sure.

Actually, LPS vs PSU Smeal, I might be tempted to go with Smeal. You would have to talk to LPS career services and LPS grads to see how well it places. Smeal won’t place the best at top IB or MC, but you can do alright for yourself there and get a good job out of undergrad.

Venkat89 is right. It’s not obvious at all. LPS has been expanded a lot; it’s a pure money-maker for the university. I don’t know enough about the courses or how it’s regarded to be able to judge accurately, but I think you have to presume that sophisticated employers and graduate schools won’t see it as the equivalent of an SAS degree. Now, depending on your story of how you wound up there, and what else you did, it could be a nice plus or not. Smeal is less risky – less to gain, less to lose.

interesting feedback.

anyone else?

hahahahahahahaha
