I am transferring to UC Davis next fall from community college(not a very good one). I am wondering if i am going to be knocked on my a$# due to the increase in rigor. Are UC science classes way more difficult than community college classes? If any of you have been through a similar transition, please explain how smoothly your transition was.

BTW I am doing pretty well in cc, at least in the science and math courses. thank you

It’s relative. If you come from an academically lacking cc, you may find it challenging as you were not prepared for it. Other kids from different ccs find uc classes easier, partially due to the curves and other grading policies. I went to a CC, but have attended the local university’s lectures from time to time. I personally found the university’s courses easier, compared to my classes. I also found the grading scale to be easier. For example in my cc, a 60% was a C, 75% a B, and 88+% an A. At my local uni, a 30% is a C, a 45% is a B and over a 60% is an A. Some credit the uni physics to be more difficult, but in my exp, it was the other way around. I averaged a B in my cc physics and I aced the uni physics test with less effort, but to each his own. If you’re well prepared you’ll transition better, but if you aren’t, it will be a harder struggle. Either way, I suggest getting your books early and exposing yourself to material over the summer.
