Is Wellesley College competitive or motivated? are the students all very driven for success? on a scale of 1-10, with 10 the most competitive, how would you rank Wellesley?

please dont assume competitiveness is a bad thing-- its not, necassarily.

I would say WC is both competitive and motivated. The students are all highly driven to be successful. Very very driven and motivated student body.

I would also say that competitiveness is based on the individual student. Are some departments more known for being more competitive than others? Yes. Obviously, the students in the sciences are more stereotypically competitive as a lot of people are pre-med and they are all basically competing against one another for spots in medical schools. That can also be said for law school, business school, and grad school in general, but the pre-meds take that to their own level, I guess.

I have found most students to be very open to collaboration, study groups, and the like. While there always is a competitive air, I feel that in some classes it’s not that we’re competing against each other, but that we’re competing more with ourselves.

Wellesley students are competitive, but I would say that the desire for success is more from the internal desire to do well versus looking better than your peers. A lot of students collaborate and study together, or volunteer to help if you’re in a pickle and have difficulty figuring something out.

I took two languages last semester, and this was the case with languages. The classes are smaller, so you get a lot closer to the people you study with. With psychology it was a little different, but even so I didn’t really encounter any nasty power-thirsty girls.
