I was wondering which school has the best engineering program for electrical and mechanical engineering? I know that Tufts and BU is far more prestigious than WPI and NEU, but NEU has the #1 co-op program in the country and they have been improving their engineering programs a lot over the last ten years. On the other hand WPI has one of the best engineering programs in the country.

So, my question to you all the CC-ers, if you were to rank those schools engineering programs, how would you rank them? (rank academics first and then rank social life, sports, etc differently if you want)

Sorry, I think that people in any position to give advice get bored with questions like this. There’s no such thing as “best”, and rankings are just stupid. If you persist on questions like this, the only straightforward answers you’re going to get will come from high school students who don’t know a damn thing opining about reputation and prestige.

No one completed the undergraduate engineering programs of all four of those schools, so no one has any standing to claim that one of them is “better” than the others. Even if someone did, how much they enjoyed it and got out of it is still totally subjective.

Tufts, BU, WPI, and NEU are all very, very different schools. I can’t possibly believe you’re ambivalent between the four contrasting educational and social cultures. Go to the school that’s the best fit for you, not the school that an ignorant majority claims is “best” (whatever that means).

If you have more specific questions about the social life, academic culture, professors, etc., at Tufts, I’ll be more than happy to share my experiences or put you in touch with some friends of mine in the engineering school.

SRB are you an entering freshman for Fall 2013 – I thought for some reason you were, so your question threw me.

I agree with ^^Snarf’s posting – it’s like asking what’e better: Mexican, Chinese, Italian, or Indian buffet. Answer: Depends on your tastes and mood. If you’re asking which one will better guarantee a job aftwards, again it depends on the specific engrg major, but I think they are all great engrg schools.

You have posted this same question on CC over the past month, even one time putting in API instead of WPI (typo). So maybe the answers to those previous postings may help too.

^ Yes, Duke I am an entering freshman for fall 2013. I am basically looking at Electrical(with computer) engineering and mechanical engineering. And yes, I know that I posted the same question on WPI thread, but the horrible social life, gender ratio, almost threw WPI out of my list. Recently, I saw that WPI graduates earn some serious money so I am reconsidering it with other schools on my list. (That if I want to do engineering. Otherwise I am pretty happy with BC. Only regret BC doesn’t have engineering :(. I love that school so much)
