For Incoming UW Freshman: Tips and "Secrets" for Class Registration

Most of my friends who joined FIGs complained about it. A few felt like their FIG was “super tight” and are pretty much bffs with some of the members. It really depends on you. I didn’t join a FIG, and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything.

ditto to what speedsolver said

I have a registration tip. Have lots of transfer/AP/RS credit and get a soph/junior/senior registration time.

I didn’t join a FIG because nothing matched up with what I needed/wanted to take, but I think I was fine without it. I’m not sure how much the “meeting people” aspect of a FIG helps, although I’m sure it’s useful to some (who knows, might have even been useful to me, had I joined one).

So I just checked what the UW gives for AP courses, and since I have Chemistry (10 credits) Biology (10 credits) APES (5 credits), Physics (15 credits), Psych (5 credits), and Stats (5 credits) All total to 50 credits, plus some other small lab credits from the University of Utah that may or may not transfer, with all of these credits will I be able to register as a sophomore?

Not for your A&O session, because everyone in the A&O session registers together, but for every quarter after, those credits will count towards your standing

What dawei94 said is correct. For the first time you register, you’ll go last no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you have credits from AP courses or are a transfer student. You will be the very last to register.

The following quarter however, you will be able to register according to grade level (and last digit of student id)

Bump! Good info here.

Bump, because OP has a great post that incoming freshman should read.
