Is it expected that the test-taker has the whole trig table/unit circle memorized? (i.e. Do you need to know all the values for sin 30, sin 45, cos 60, tan 135, etc.?)

i would like to know as well.

You do have a calculator if you forget...

I realize that, but the calculator does not give values like √2/2... it gives it in decimal form.

just memorize it, it's really not that hard.

it'll make other, non-SAT things easier too

Yeah, just memorise it. It's not that difficult. You really only have to memorise the first quadrant, and if I were you, I would memorise it in radians.

You should be able to convert 30, 60, 90, etc. to radians in your head, using logic, so it doesn't matter too much.

Well the TI-89 does, and you can still do the problems in decimals anyways.

You don't have to but it's good in the long run.

By the way, if sqt2/2 was on the test, just plug it in to your calculator!

Just save all the values in your calculator. Go to programs and just type in all of them and save them....

Those are pretty easy values that you should know.

If you haven't used them enough to memorize them or to easily derive them within a few seconds, I would question your readiness for the test.

I do know those, but I don't know cot (225) off the top of my head, nor do I know sec(135). Yeah, with some tweaking and using the reciprocal identities I could get it, but I'm wondering if memorizing these types of things are necessary for the Math IIC test.

I don't know, but it probably shouldn't take too long to just memorize it.

In the time it's taken you to post in this thread you could've memorized it.

is it necessary to know the values on the test?

Exactly, akati^. I don't want advice on whether or not I should memorize it -- I want to know if it is necessary for SPECIFICALLY THE MATH IIC TEST TO HAVE THAT INFORMATION MEMORIZED.

can someone answer please?

bump please...i want to know so i can prepare for math 2c

The unit circle isn't too bad, just learn the pattern and keep practicing it. Now with some problems, like [Sin(315)Cos(315)]/Tan(135), Barron's will even say to just plug it in, and convert the fraction answer choices to the one closest to what your calculator says. Of course, for something like Sin(30)Cos(60), if you know that it's just 1/2 * 1/2, then that's quicker than plugging it into your TI.

MEMORIZE ALL OF THEM.... You need to know them. Case closed...
