CU FOLLOWS STATE SYSTEM TUITION FREEZE WITH NO INCREASE IN FEES, HOUSING COSTS

Nice to see the tuition freeze, but the fees and dorms are very high at the PASSHE schools. So if they raise them, it negates the benefit of freezing the tuition.

Best Colleges for the Money…PASSHE Schools hold their own!!
http://money.com/money/best-colleges/

I posted in the original thread. Alas, this week we moved S19 in to… Penn State University Park. He was accepted into Ship with a $2k scholarship. Susquehanna gave him a merit scholarship that brought COA down to just above Ship. Also got into Loyola Maryland and LVC. But he wanted PSU and it’s within budget for us.

My husband and I are not originally from PA and we don’t really get into the PSU hype. And don’t ask me how many times I’ve had to explain to friends and family outside of PA how PSU is not our actual state school. I’ve had to PA-splain our tiered public higher education system many times to people who don’t get why PSU doesn’t cost the same for PA residents as the University of Maryland College Park does for MD residents.

All that said, S19 has close friends who are attending WCU, SRU, Bloom, Cal U and Edinboro. Some are commuting to Millersville. Being from south central PA, the PASSHE schools are well-represented and respected choices.

We now have S21 starting the college planning process. So I am still very much following all of the PASSHE news. That original thread was so valuable.

@bester1 I have appreciated all of your updates.

I have a D21 and am also following the PASSHE info. I can definitely see her choosing one of them.

Infinite Waves, I am a two time Penn State Univ Park grad and I totally get the hype! Good luck to your son. I hope he has a great experience!

@frostymom He’s all in and loving it. And hey, we are the ones who moved him just over the MD/PA state line when he was four-years-old. 9/27 will be a fun Friday around here when PSU plays Maryland (which would have cost us the same as the PASSHE schools had we stayed in Maryland)*.

Question re: West Chester University for those that have applied in the past. My daughter is telling me there wasn’t an email generated by WCU confirming she submitted her application (like the other 2 PASSHE schools she applied to). Is that expected? Millersville, for example, generated an email and she said she was able to create an account for the school’s portal so she could check status. How does one check status for WCU? Common App is saying the school downloaded her application, so we know they received it. Before I tell her to contact admissions, hoping I can get her some info here first.

Never mind. She just received and email and portal information and decision. Wow, they move fast, only 12 days since she applied.

Wow, @dma919 ! Looks like WCU took care of it all at once!

@InfiniteWaves yes, so happy to have such a quick decision. (of course nudgy mom made her send an email to inquire this morning. Literally 5 min later the email came–now she will never listen to me again. LOL)

Achieve more. Together…

I posted a few times on the previous thread when my oldest son was applying to schools two years ago. He started at University of Delaware but is transferring to school in Madrid.

My middle son is a senior now & will be attending Millersville next year (he’s a baseball player). Most sports outside of football and basketball have limited scholarships to offer so the PASSHE schools are a great option for PA athletes. Strong, highly competitive athletic conference (rivals D1 for baseball), in-state tuition (we live in PA) combined with good academics.
