For the Readers: What do you think of the Kindle?

I definitely want one. It seems like a great alternative for a student. I hate lugging around books that I might not even have time to read that day.

It seems like a great product, but it can't replace the paperback. What do you guys think?

You must always explain what you're talking about.

I don't know what the Kindle is.

One of those thingies that store a bunch of books.

It might be viable in a couple years for students, but it will never replace my good ol' paperbacks.

Maybe if it cost $100.

But at $400 plus $10 per book, that's at least 16 hardcovers and close to 30 trade or rack paperbacks. Before I even know if I like it, if I'll lose it, if I'll crack the screen or if I'll miss sticking a softcover into my pocket. Or even miss the two times a year starting up conversations when someone sees the bookjacket of what I'm reading.

Too expensive, even if they have everything I want to read (which I doubt).

And...I'd really hate being tied to Amazon and miss going to bookstores.
