For those who took Chem 3A

-Is the chemportal access required for this class?
-Also, how hard is this class in comparison with 1A?

Thank you

I had it with Pedersen this summer

-it is useless
-it kicks 1A's ass, severely.

Do you apply what you learned in Chem 1A to 3A or is a lot of the material new? I'm asking because a senior I know looked at one of my midterms for 1A and said, "you don't need to know any of this for O-chem." So I was wondering if she was telling the truth.

lots of new things

The thing is I never took AP Chem and for me around 40% of the material was new in 1A and for people who did take AP Chem they already knew everything from HS AP Chem so for them it was basic review. It seemed like I was always at a disadvantage compared to them. So what I am really hoping is that for Chem 3A to be very different from Chem 1A in order to level the playing field.

i agree with calbear.. i felt like i was behind most of the time, since I didn't take AP chem in HS.. it seemed like chem was intuitive for everyone except me.. lol. ugh. i hope chem 3a is different. if not easier, atleast a tiny bit more interesting?

it will be harder, not at all easier.

Chem 3A requires a little bit from Chem 1A (electronegativity, some molecular orbitals), but mostly, no one has learned this stuff before so it's much more even.

Chemportal isnt required.

The material is more difficult because it was new to me (I took Ap chem in HS) but I found the curve to be much more generous. However, the grade is based entirely on two midterms and a final.

-Is the chemportal access required for this class?

NO

-Also, how hard is this class in comparison with 1A?

It was all right! 3A mostly is about internalization!! ---Just Don't bomb the final!
I took it during my fall 2008 freshmen yr. It really sucks! I had no life at all. I did just around the average on the 1st midterm. 2nd midterm I scored above average. BUT! when I saw the final, I knew my A was flying away.
