How did you go about memorizing the time periods? Like from 1700-1800, etc, those events.
Because on the FRQs and DBQs, there's going to be prompts that lists the years, but I'm having a hard time remembering what event is in what year.

Flashcards flashcards flashcards. I did not have a difficult time with the time periods, but memorization of events, color coding, repetition ect. really helped me. I got a 4.

Well, for the DBQ’s, think of it this way: Write it like a normal essay (like the other two), except you get some hints from the documents about what you should write on.

For the other essays, I have no idea. My teacher never really taught us. Just vomit everything you know on the topic into that essay.

Two simple phrases will always help you score high on history essays, I cannot stress this enough. Vomiting info is good, but it needs to be supplanted with, “This was caused by…” and “The significance/effect of this is…” Those simple phrases, however mechanical, will force you to analyze. They got me a nine on every essay in AP World and a solid 7/8 average in APUSH

Rote memorization doesn’t help. Try and think of things in relative terms. For example, associate words with people, times, events, and places. Slavery: antebellum period, Jefferson Davis, Civil War, Emancipation, things like that. APUSH is generally an easy exam, so you should be fine. I got a 5.
Every year seems to get a different period in our history to focus on in the MC. Obviously, post Iran-Contra isn’t really essential to know, because we’ve lived through it. I remember that when my brother took it, there was a question on Timothy McVeigh and OKC.

I had an amazing teacher last year who made us take tests by time periods and memorize them yearlong, so it wasn’t so hard. I studied this like crazy though (and got a 5). Good luck!:

Yeah. I just crammed this–read the whole thing in the week before the exam (which I do not recommend, you might wanna give yourself 2-3 weeks because I was reading like 5 hrs/day). But anyway, my only studying was reading AMSCO and I got a 5. :D
