Impressive list.
My daughter will be singing with the choir at graduation. She likes that she can be there for it.

I’ll be there…with a big pack of tissues!!

Awww… Congrats happy1 !!

^^Thanks so much.

Oh my goodness, happy1! Congrats!

Happy1…get there early for best seats. Its often hot and muggy. Bring water. Eat beforehand. It goes on for hours. The marching in takes forever…so many degrees.

Its a wonderful day. I recommend moving out BEFORE commencement…some waited until after commencement and security was breathing down their necks to get out of the building…long day. We started at 900am and left campus at 400pm. But lots of pictures and crying professors, hugging deans etc.

I actually sat back by the trees in the shade…couldnt take the hot sun.

Have fun. Congrats to you and your son. Where is going to grad school next year?

Sovereign, how late do you think it will run?

We will be meeting my daughter at Lincoln Center to move her out after the grad ceremony. She will have to take the van back to LC. We aren’t sure what time to get to LC to meet her.

@sovreigndebt - thanks for the advice…luckily for us we live close enough that my plan was to go late in week before graduation and pull out as much stuff as we can (including the big stuff like rugs, kitchen stuff, tv) and hopefully leave him with only a couple of suitcases to take home after graduation. We’ll see how well it works. My S said they have to be out of the dorms by 10PM which should give us more than enough time to eat at Arthur Avenue and then get the rest of his stuff out. He will be at Notre Dame next year for a master’s degree - I expect it will be a very different and hopefully another wonderful experience for him.

@LeftyLou - the school-wide ceremony is slated to end by 12:00 or so and then individual school diploma ceremonies follow at around 12:30. I’m guessing that the choir will sing at the school-wide ceremony only but I"m not sure. I’m also not sure how soon after the ceremony they will get back to LC. Maybe your D can ask the choir director about prior year’s experiences.

@sovreigndebt - BTW, how early did you get to graduation? I was thinking around 8AM? It will be a long day…

^^…the main issue is parking in the garage. Be there by 830 and you will be okay. People mill around until it gets close to 930–945, then find seats. Then the procession starts…which takes almost an hour. Its a LONG procession of graduates and professors and deans and guest speakers. Then the ceremony lasts about an hour. Rose Hill graduates stay at Eddies, Gabelli, LC, GSE, GSAS, GSRS, go elsewhere (as directed) for the degrees. Degrees take an hour or so, but you are free to leave as soon as you obtain your degree. ITs sort of chaotic in getting degrees…as people start milling around and chatting…somewhat disrespectful to the people at the end of the alphabet. Most then get out of their dorm/apartments. Security was pushing us to get out by 400pm though they say the evening is permitted. We did pictures until 300 or so and my kid was out already from Saturday, stuff in the car. Her boyfriend another issue…lol. Lots go to Arthur Ave for dinner so make reservations there now. We did a nice dinner on Long Island in jeans and that was so relaxing, we then headed back to Jersey for our hotel around 1100pm, and drove home on Sunday.

For Lincoln Center, do what you must…not sure if the RamVan is operating but pretty sure it is. Check with them on the schedules.

Its an emotional day…really hard to say goodbye to friends, professors and deans. Lots of tears. But happy tears too.

God bless you all and congratulations!

The choir director isn’t usually a wealth of information, like he didn’t tell the kids that there is a discount code to buy tickets when they sang at Carnegie Hall until the week before when of course we already had bought our tickets…

But yeah, she will have to ask.

@Sovreigndebt - Thanks for the info. Yes, we do have reservations at my son’s favorite Arthur Ave. restaurant already. I thought it would be easier to come back home to eat, but he really wanted to go there, so I figure its his day! I watched graduation online last year (and my S went back to see some of his friends graduate) so we have a sense of how long it is. I am anticipating an emotional day filled with a combination of joy and pride in his accomplishments and the wonderful friends he has made at Fordham mixed with a tinge of sadness as a wonderful chapter in his life comes to a close.

@LeftyLou - maybe your D can find some choir members who sang at graduation last year to ask. Frustrating about not getting timely information from the director.
