Fordham Financial Aid??

I just received my financial aid award from Fordham and I think its surprisingly small in comparison to the $63k cost of attendance...I was awarded $3500 from the Jogues Scholarship and $5350 in Grant-in-Aid, along with $3250 in loans *all per semester. That leaves me with about $51k to make up for somehow?? Its surprising to me because basically every other admitted student I've encountered has also recieved too little aid to attend! Arent private schools supposed to be big on aid? Because Hofstra and St. Johns both offered me generous scholarships to where I wouldnt have to pay a penny to attend.

I plan on appealing this friday when I visit or talking to a counselor but this is just ridiculous, where does the money go if I got nothing? (btw my EFC was 5525 and I have 3 other siblings in college, i also live out of state)

There are 2 semesters in a school year leaving you with a gap of 40K. With the exception of NYS HEOP students, Fordham does not commit to meeting 100% demonstrated need. Even if you appeal, it will not be enough to close the 40k gap. This school is not a financially feasible option for you. If Hofstra and St. Johns offered you enough money to attend where you will have no out of pocket cost (and hopefully no big loans), and you want to be in NY, i think that you should get excited about those schools, try to attend their admitted student events and then decide on a school

Did you not run the net price calculator for Fordham before you applied? That would probably have told you it was out of reach. We ran the calculator and discovered it would be affordable only if my son was awarded one of their very few full ride scholarships. When he applied, but didn’t get it, we crossed Fordham off the list.

As @sybbie719 suggested, go with one of the schools that offered you enough money to attend, and don’t give Fordham a second thought!

We are still awaiting our Fordham financial aid package, although my DD was admitted to the BFA Alvin Ailey program. We did the NPC, although there may be some talent money in there. Very hard to tell. Of course it’s her top choice, but we do have a generous state school offer waiting in the wings. It’s all very stressful. Hope you find another avenue…

I remember seeing Fordham’s Viewbook when my kids were applying. they had some sample FA pkgs and many of them had big Plus loans in them. I think that either you have to qualify for big merit, be affluent, or commute to afford.

Very few private schools meet 100 percent need. Most can’t come close to meeting an EFC like you mentioned.
Fordham might be a great financial choice for a family who had en EFC of 40 or 50 thousand, for example. Hofstra and St. Johns look like much better alternatives and I’d jump at them without giving Fordham another thought.
