What do you make of Father McShane’s letter? Will Fordham be on line in the Fall?
Link?
It was in an email to us. Am i allowed to copy and paste the email?
Ah, got it. Don’t post the whole thing, but some critical sentences are ok AFAIK
This is the gist of it. I found this on the Fordham web site. https://www.fordham.edu/info/29768/fall_2020
While I like the approach Fordham is taking, I am skeptical that there will be any in-person teaching in the fall. They simply don’t have the ability to say, one way or another, whether the fall will be online only or not. However, I did find Fr. McShane’s letter reassuring, and do appreciate that the administration seems to be very thorough and intentional in their plans to have good options available to the students (whether online or not) and the ability to quickly change course if necessary.
Yes, i welcomed the Fordham email. They are definitely giving it a good deal of thought. They are really stuck between a rock and a hard place given their location.
I do think this letter was more comprehensive and nuanced than other universities. It was very clear that the semester will start on Aug 26th and that course content will be designed to have asynchronous and synchronous content which is great. The one key question not addressed is dorms. For out of state students if dorms are not open, then it will be 100% online no matter how they stagger classes. For what’s it is worth, we expect the Fall semester to be online and hopefully Summer 2021 will be the catch up for labs and other activities that can’t be done virtually.
UCal system just posted mostly online as well. FYI.
I guess Fordham will have more details coming. All online or partially online? Two semesters or three semesters? Single dorm for every student? Class size?
