Hey! I was admitted to UCSB and Fordham and I am struggling to chose one as I am afraid of making the wrong choice. Which theatre program is better?
Is it true that there is no social life at Fordham? Are all the guys at Fordham gay?
I want a good college education but I also want to have a good college experience and meet a lot of people and have fun
Please help!!!
Fordham is a very good program. I don’t know anything about UCSB. And no, I’m guessing that not all the guys at Fordham are gay. Though I do remember wondering if all the men in NYC were gay at one point, when I lived there in my early 20s, but it was a good time anyway. I wouldn’t worry about the social life. You’re in NYC. If you don’t like the college scene, it’s not like you’re trapped.
UCSB has a wonderful theatre program. One of my daughter’s close friends is a Senior BFA Acting major and we have seen a number of shows which are always excellent. I believe you audition for admission at the end of your freshman year. As for UCSB, it is of course located in one of the most beautiful locations on earth right on the beach above Santa Barbara. It does have a reputation as a party school and of course Isla Vista has a well earned rowdy and raucous title. I wouldn’t encourage all of aspects of it, but if you want a social life and lots of people from a vast demographic pool you will find that at UCSB. It is academically challenging as well and offers a traditional college experience, with beautiful weather, gorgeous Santa Barbara and the beach at your doorstep. It’s about as different from NYC as you can get, so you need to think about what is a better fit for you. Best of luck. Oh - and there are plenty of very cute, straight guys! : )
