Foreign Language Class: Filipino or Tagalog?

Hi, so I need to take four semesters of a foreign language for a major requirement (Political Economy major). Can be any foreign language.

I’m deciding between Filipino and Spanish.

I know Filipino is super impractical because it’s really only spoken in the Philippines. Most Filipinos in America speak English. However, I am passionate about the language and really want to learn it because I am a Filipino-American with a weak background for the language.

Spanish, on the other hand, is very practical in the real world. I am less passionate about the language though, and as it increases in difficulty, I am afraid I will become less and less interested in it.

Personal enjoyment or practicality?
