Foreign Language Credit

Question -- does anyone know how the Foreign language credits work.

You must start at Level 3 --if you've had had at least 4 years of high school instruction.

When you complete Level 3 do they award you credits for all 3 courses so that you have the required 12 credits in a foreign language?

Oops -- lucky the question was for my daughter because I apparently don't have command of the English language and can't even spell the word language correctly!!!

No. My daughter will be a sophmore this fall. She had 5 yrs of spanish in high school. She took spanish 3 this year, it was 4 credits. You only get 4 credits. But spanish 3 (any language 3rd level or higher) is what they call a wikd card. You can use the credits to fill any of the general education classes you need. Assuming that a language is not required in your major. My d is a speech therapy major and language is not required. So she can use those 4 credits and use them say toward her science gen ed requirement or math, or whatever she chooses.

Spanish was a good easy A for her. I would suggest your daughter take it, but make sure you have an easy teacher, by checking out the teacher on rateyourprofessors.com before you enroll. My d's teacher was Wendy Rizzo who was very good.

Thanks. My daughter needs 12 credits for her major but.....she must start at French 3 since she had so much French in high school. I think just by taking French 3 she'll fulfill her 12 credit language requirement but I'm not sure just exactly how it works.

Thanks for the rateyourprofessors.com suggestion.

About rateyourprofessors.com. It really came in handy for my daughter. We basically use it as a bible in picking classes. My daughter made deans list both semesters, and took relatively hard courses, with partying, being in a sorotity and involved in THON.

you need to complete the equivalent of the 12th language credit for and BA degree so it is not 12 credits, but it is what would be the 12th credit which is French 3

Ok -- is this correct? so basically 12 credits are required but you can place out of 8 of them by starting with the third level. Although they don't award you the actual credits they only require that you take 1 course. She is required to take language for a BS degree not a BA degree.

Thanks!
