Foreign Languages?

Hey guys (again)

I have some friends in older grades who say American Universities recommend/its better on the application to have 4 years of a foreign language (i.e. french or spanish). Is this true? Because if this wasn't the case, I'd drop the course for grade 11.

Thanks guys, and I appreciate the help.

i’m pretty sure 2 years is the standard/expected for most schools though some may want more. i don’t know if taking 2 years more would be any better but 2 is enough.

2 years is standard for most schools, but Penn does explicitly say that it recommends four years of a foreign language; personally, I don’t know anybody (except for engineering students who do not have a foreign language requirement, to my knowledge) who took fewer than three years of foreign language. Most took four (I took three, though… just couldn’t deal with a foreign language senior year of high school haha)

@UPennDream what system of education are you following?

Our school is one year ahead in for histories, math, and sciences. (took grade 9 science in grade 8, civics in grade 9, taking biology and chemistry in grade 10 currently). For languages, its just the same as any other school.

I’m probably going to take french now for four years ; ) thanks for the help.
