i can write and read french quite well. i can even speak well; i mean, no one's gonna mistake me for a native, but i know pronunciation rules. the one thing i CANNOT do is the listening activities. i can usually understand my teacher fine, but when we're listening to tapes, i bomb the exercise.

every. time.

unless it's excessively easy.

i know that other people must have this problem, so do you have any suggestions to improve in the listening area? even if you don't take french, i'll probably find any tips useful (unless you take like latin).

The tapes are too fast, but I try to listen for words and phrases that are relevant to the assignment.

yeah honestly i can barely do that

anything else??

Just don’t think about anything, and listen to the whole thing. If you try to understand one sentence when another is being said at the same time, you won’t understand either one. Listen closely without thinking a thought, and analyze it at the end.

that seems really obvious, but, honestly, it’s rather helpful for me. lol thanks
