I go to a high school where foreign langauge classes arent offered, my parents and I were concerend about this but my guidance counselor insisted I could take care of it later. So, Junior year came and I was still worried about it but after speaking with the GC again I was sort of deterred from community college courses in foreign languages…I’ve already applied to my schools and stuff…but I’m curious what you guys think…will this affect my decision or will I be able to fufill some sort of requirement at the school like my GC suggests should be possible…Should I contact the schools and inform them about foreign langauges not being offered?

It really depends where you're applying. LAC's, even the second and third-tier ones, often view foreign language as indicative of a "curious mind" - or so my interviewers told me. These schools expect that you will have 4 years of a foreign language, often with disregard to whether these courses were offered at one's HS - they would expect one to make every effort to find these courses elsewhere. With state schools (so long as it's not a UC) it shouldn't be as much of an issue. So I would recommend sending a letter of explanation as soon as possible, perhaps ask your GC to include one with a mid-year school report . . .

Hmmm, well, most communities have a community college so if I were an admissions counselor I'd expect to see a student go outside of their own school. That's what I did when my school didn't offer German; and I had already maxed out on Spanish at my school.
