Hello all. I know it is hard to generalize, but would anyone with experience care to share their knowledge and experience with what the profile for students receiving the Forty Acres scholarships look like? I HAVE found the Texas Exes web site and am reviewing it’s content, but other input is always appreciated.
Off the top of my head, are OOS kids equally considered? what is the typical score profile and EC load for winners. That type of thing.
Again, I don’t expect hard and fast answers, but any color you can add to this painting would be helpful as my S18 reviews potential schools to apply to and whethere they meet our somewhat “Merit Seeking Heavy” criteria.
Student profiles for 40 Acres recipients are available. One aspect of the 40 Acres scholarship is that those awarded serve as the “face” of UT, academic and leadership excellence. Thus as the face of UT, they are highly self motivated, as evidenced by outstanding academic, leadership, service credentials, as well as have some extraordinary skill/extracurricular diversity or depth. More, I noticed that many of the students had success in Speech and Debate in HS and more than a few each year seemed to be joint degree in Business & Plan II. With an interview process as part of selection, the students are very well-spoken, outgoing, mature, self-motivated and exemplary student leaders.
Someone I know of whose student was a finalist said that most of those who went on to win seemed to have started their own business or non-profit. Sounds like a strong entrepreneurial sprit and almost aggressive social interaction at the few days of interviews was key.
