<p>kinda weird..their rankings are way off for some schools</p>

<p>This is most likely based on research and $$ rather than undergraduate quality.</p>

<p>It's got the usual suspects at the top though...Harvard, cornell, stanford, berkeley....along with some no-names thrown in..</p>

<p>The best way to tell a good school..</p>

<p>1> Is it IVY ? If yes, it's a good school
2> Is it MIT, Stanford? If yes, it's a good school</p>

<p>All others need to be looked at more closely to see the pros and cons</p>

<p>yeah, this world "ranking" has Princeton at the esteemed #59 spot, right below UC Santa Barbara.</p>

<p>the blind "dartboard" method would give you a more credible ranking.</p>

<p>Why don't any of you do some RESEARCH before blindly criticizing these rankings? It isn't a ranking of the quality of any of the universities, but just how visible or present they are on the web. The title of the page is "World Unversities' ranking on the web," not "The World's Best Universities" or whatever. Obviously, well-known schools and large schools are going to be near the top, especially if they focus on technical subjects (it seems that technical subjects have a much greater presence on the web). Again, this ranking has nothing to do with school quality.</p>

<p>Hey I like this list. I knew Kent State (174) was better than Tufts (180) and Vandy (187). But I had no clue that KSU was better than Case (250) and Wake (284). I am going to show this list to potential employers!</p>

<p>Also notice how no stupid LACs are anywhere near the top.</p>

<p>NC State ranked 33rd in the US and 36th in the world? Duke is apparently struggling to stay one spot ahead... :eek:</p>
