I am a high school senior who was recently accepted into quite a few schools for Pre-med, neuro-biology or for a B.S. in Biology. I received $27,000 merit to Franklin Pierce University today when I learned I was accepted into the Health Science major and the Pre-med pathway. Due to my families finances, I need to choose a school that is affordable, which has ruled out many of my other choices. Because of my moms state job I get some tuition off at URI. This means that Franklin Pierce and URI would likely be similar in price. Though I like the clubs and options more at Franklin Pierce, I know what is most important is being able to be accepted to med school. If I were to get the same grades at each school, how likely would I be to get accepted to med school? Is there anything that swayed you to attend either URI or FPU? Is one a better program than the other? Thank you!
Grades are only one part of the picture. Assuming you earn a 3.6 GPA, neither school will advantage nor disadvantage you in med school admissions. Med school admissions is nuanced–considering not just objective stats (GPA, MCAT), but “soft” factors like ECs, LORs, and how well you present yourself through writing and in person.
My advice–choose the school the offers you the best combination of fit, cost and opportunity.
^This. These are two very different institutions. FPU is a tiny private institution whose entire student body is smaller than the freshman class at URI, a much larger state flagship university.
