Frat free?

Is it true that Amherst does not have frat/sor.?

Yes, officially, not for a few decades, but, I believe, some have gone underground.

there are four underground frats plus there are a lot at umass

what does it matter whether there are frats/sor.? I'm an international studnet and here we don't have such things and i'm not really aware of their function and purpose. Can somebody explain to me. Is it good for a univ. to have themor not?

they do have "social dorms" ...

and frats or not, there is a lot of drinking going on.

Remember that even if a college has underground frats, the frats will have far less influence on social life if they're officially banned by the college (like at Amherst). Amherst doesn't have a big frat scene. If you're looking for that, your best bet would be UMass, down the road.

I personally dislike frats. In the past decade or so they've mostly caused trouble at schools that have them. Maybe in the past, the "brotherhood" thing was more valued and respected, but now they seem like dens for alcohol.

Ok I'am a friend of the person whom this sn belongs too and I SO happen toattend Amherst College. What a coincidence! Anyways the frat scene is very laid back and now frat activities happen on campus. A party might be thrown by a frat on campus but everybody is invited and that is as far as things go on campus. I've personally never had a problem with a frat.
