I've noticed that the question, "What house should I join/consider/is right for me?" gets asked a lot on these boards...so hopefully this post helps some of you answer that question. This is coming from someone who will be a sophomore next year at IU and is in a top house.

breakdown, best-worst order by category

Preppy: 1) Beta 2) Sigma Chi 3) Phi Psi 4) Phi Delt
Bro: 1) Pi Kapps 2) Kappa Sigma 3) Sigma Pi
Rage: 1) Acacia 2) Delts 3) SNU
Jew: 1) Sammy 2) ZBT 3) AEPi

Note: If a fraternity isn't listed, I'd suggest not wasting your time with them. In particular, I wouldn't rush Lambda, Skulls, Sig Ep, Theta Chi, and Delta Chi, as they are among the worst.

Note 2: "Preppy" fraternities have the best balance of partying/studying.

If you have any questions about IU Greek life PM me.

I swear CC is turning into ACB. All the frat-ranking **** that’s been on here is useless because there’s no universal tier system and what’s the worst house to one person may be the best for someone else. This is just too biased. For instance I rushed all the “worst” houses you listed and I pledged Theta Chi. They were the nicest guys I’ve ever met and I felt like the house was about more than alcohol and sex. I was forced to drop for personal reasons, which was the hardest decision I’ve made all year. Sig Ep is on the rise (and the highest GPA on campus) and the one time I went to Lambda it was decent. Delta Chi always seemed ******y to me but I’ve never been there. But while your stereotypes might be true or not, no one can rely on one persons opinions to form their own.

I was just about to say the same thing. Why would you post something like this? I feel like these posts encourage further animosity and division within the IU Greek system. What’s worse is that prospective students are reading this, so they’ll go into rush with a set attitude that they HAVE to rush certain houses or else they’ll be miserable. This isn’t true at all, obviously all Greek houses at IU have something to offer or else they wouldn’t be around. What may be considered “top tier” isn’t the best choice for everyone, and no one should have to be condemned or ridiculed because they rush a house that’s not considered the “best”. Frat rankings are completely subjective and in the long run it’s not about what tier your house is, it’s about the connections and friendships you make.

“Note: If a fraternity isn’t listed, I’d suggest not wasting your time with them. In particular, I wouldn’t rush Lambda, Skulls, Sig Ep, Theta Chi, and Delta Chi, as they are among the worst.”

This is the worst mentality to have. Why are they the worst? Not everyone is alike.

Please don’t bother commenting if you actually have no idea what you’re talking about. If any of you were actually in the Greek system, you’d know that there is relatively no animosity among fraternities. Unless of course you judge the entire Greek community off CollegeACB like some do (and apparently they are in this forum!)…In reality, there really is very little fraternity-fraternity interaction. If you go into rush too open-minded and try to rush everywhere, you’re either going to not get a bid or get a bid somewhere your personality doesn’t “fit”. I was a little less clueless during my rush but still gave BOTH lower and higher tier houses a chance. Whether you want to believe it or not, there IS a significant difference between the quality of guys on the top and bottom. Not only that, but many of the lower fraternities unfortunately have negative stereotypes associated with them (ie Skulls and roofies). I’d never want myself associated with that, regardless of how much I liked a house. I can’t understand why its such a bad thing to warn incoming freshman of these stereotypes and perhaps narrow their search. If I offended anyone, I’m sorry.

You are rather quick to make presumptions because I actually am a part of the Greek system, or else I would not bother commenting on a thread that is irrelevant to me.

That’s all I’m saying. But here you are encouraging people to not give lower tier houses the time of day… which, by the way, just goes to perpetuate negative stereotypes on CollegeAcb.

“Please don’t bother commenting if you actually have no idea what you’re talking about. If any of you were actually in the Greek system, you’d know that there is relatively no animosity among fraternities.”

I am in a house and not in one you listed as the “worst.” “Relative” to what/who? There is some animosity and I’d say there is relatively *more *animosity in comparison to other colleges where multiple fraternities throw an event.

**“If you go into rush too open-minded and try to rush everywhere, you’re either going to not get a bid or get a bid somewhere your personality doesn’t fit.”

I believe one should have some sort of idea before, but if you go in thinking… "Oh the kid on CollegeConfidential told me not to look at “Theta Chi,” that can be a detrimental mentality to have. The kid could be a great fit for that fraternity, but because of the close-mindedness they may end up somewhere they aren’t happy or do not get a bid at all due to perceived prestige-chasing. Anyone rushing should remember, IF you don’t find the house you like first semester or do not get a bid there then rush 2nd semester (Exception : Phi Gamma Delta / FIJI).

Quality is subjective. You said SigEp is one of the “worst.” They have the highest GPA as a fraternity on campus, yet they are the worst? The fraternity rankings typically given on other websites are full of subjectivity and usually are based on the perceived attractiveness of their sorority pairs, historical rankings, campus involvement of members, GPA of members, their house, and parties. The issue is everyones’ view is different on what’s important.

You are perpetuating stereotypes. Has anyone heard of anyone getting roofied at any Indiana University Greek party in the past 2 years? I’d argue most of the student body didn’t know what a roofie (Flunitrazepam) was before the rise of the movie, The Hangover.

Fresh, obviously people (Greek or not) don’t want rankings here. Leave these biases to ACB.
