Frats

Hey I'm kinda taking over this page but what's frat life like? What's the hazing level? Best one? One that attracts best girls? Etc. thanks!!

The USC Interfraternity Council site lists all the frats by location on a map with a link to their websites where you can find FAQs. I’ve been going through their websites narrowing down my list to three or so frats to rush.

[USC Interfraternity Council (IFC)](http://www.uscifc.com/chapters.html)

That didn’t really answer any of my questions. But thanks.

It’s good to look at the list and have an overview, but you really don’t get a feel for them from their websites. I’m not in a frat, so take me with a grain of salt, but I have many friends who are. Obviously frat life is largely centered around social activities. Why else would you be looking to join one? Someone not in a frat can still have a great social life and party, but being in a frat makes it easy and every week, if not several days/nights a week. It’s one way to have a group of friends always down for something. It’s best to get a feel for them from the rush events they have. You’ll be happiest joining like minded people, even if they aren’t the top house. An older friend of mine was in a house with a great reputation but he deactivated his junior year because, as he put it, “they were dicks that only thought with their dicks.” (CC will probably censor that lol).

Hazing: Each house hazes differently, and some don’t really. You have to decide what you’re willing to put up with. Just because a house hazes hard doesn’t mean they’re good. But a house that doesn’t haze at all means they’re missing out on a certain level of bonding experiences. Hazing and military bootcamp share roots when it comes to bonding as a unit and authority. However, some hazing might be just to make you do stupid things and embarrass you.

Best girls: Hmm… what I’ll say is that no matter what house you’re at, if you want the best girls then you’ll have to be the best guy. And now you’re competing against a pool of ~2000 bros, many of whom have more experience. Some of the ‘best’ girls look like coked out hookers on Thursday night, and some of them have just done a line or two of coke. However, for the guy with yellow fever, you’ll do much better going to the smaller parties where that type show up more. Bottom line: It’s USC, there’s pretty girls everywhere, what that means for you is what you make of it.

Best one: If they’re not on the row (28th), it is harder to be a top house, though not impossible. Based on my observations and the GIRLS I asked: AEPi, Sigma Chi, and Phi Psi seem to be regarded as top for the last few years and longer, for the sorority girl type. To be fair, their stereotypes are Jewish (but party hard), white upperclass (though a friend in it has FA), and athletes, respectively. Look at the big events, they do such as registereds and philanthropies to learn more. However, for less of the typical sorority girl, if your type is the girl who looks like a model but would rather play some beer pong than black out, I’ve listed more below.

Some more houses to mention are: Beta, Sig Nu (who’s remodeling), and Pi Kapp seem to be well rounded houses. I’ve heard ATO is known for drugs, but I’ve heard they’ve cleaned up in the last 2 years. AGO is Christian but the guys are still a lot of (sober) fun and very nice. SAM is Jewish, more low-key, but if you’re Jewish and religion matters. Not IFC but SPD is engineering but they have good parties, and tons of connections. SAE is usually regarded as high, but I’ve heard too many racist, stupid, and unnecessary hazing stories about them to say they’re good. Theta Xi is less about getting drunk every weekend but going out and being active, such as mountain biking, sky diving, and camping trips, which is something you might prefer.

There’s also a lot of non-Greek orgs that offer similar experiences, though in different capacities. They party too but less often, and do other things, such as getting front row seats at football games. Feel free to ask me any more questions.
