"free college workshop . . get more grants/scholarships" - in my mail today.

received a flyer in the mail about a workshop promising all sorts of things to lower the costs of college. No word anywhere on who is putting this on.

SO SKEPTICAL: here are some of the highlights " Learn how families with high income or assets can be eligible for aid" and “how to lower your out of pocket costs and and get the max amount of FA from each school” and " Understand cost effective options to fund college."

i’ve read CC enough to grasp FA. I think i get it. So what am missing here? This flyer makes it sound so easy like there’s free money for higher incomes and EFCs outside of merit aid. What do you think it’s all about?

It’s a solicitation…and I bet they don’t offer their help for free!

I call that…junk mail.

My guess is a financial advisor and those “cost effective options” involve investing in their programs. Chance are, they know more about a sales lure than fin aid.

They’re trying to find ways to help you hide income and assets so your EFC is lower.

If they’re sending you this flyer, it probably means they need clients.
