I know that someone may have posted a simlar topic before...
but on average, for a caltech student who takes the standard 45 unit courseload per term, how much free time would you have a week? and what do you do with that free time?
Also, for example, a 4-0-5 class, is nine hours a week sufficient to spend for that class. I mean, you probably need more time allocated for studying, and if so, how much usually?

This will probably go a long way towards answering your questions:

It really depends on the class and how much effort you want to put into it. Most people don't go to lectures for many classes most of the time, so that gives you a lot more time to sleep or do other stuff. Some classes are over-unitted; I have spent 1 hour a week or less on some 9-unit classes; and some other classes are under-unitted; where I spend 10 or more hours a week on the homework alone on a 3-0-6 class for example. (Especially certain lab classes are extremely time-consuming.) You should talk to someone who has taken a certain class to get an idea of how much time that class takes; and you should talk to someone in a certain major to get an idea of what are the time-consuming required classes in that major.
