I haven’t heard very much about the realities of living in the foreign language dorms at Bryn Mawr. Do the people living there actually stick to speaking the target language? What other activities occur in these dorms? Just curious. We didn’t visit that area when were were there.

Hey shishigashira,

While I personally haven’t lived in Haffner (the foreign language hall), I do have friends that have lived there in the past and currently do. As an incoming freshman, you’ll be able to request a language hall if you desire on the housing form. There are three sections of the residence hall: French, Spanish, and German. My understanding is that students do speak the language with each other. I also know of some international students that live there and speak their first language.

I do know it’s a quieter dorm on campus if that is a factor for you. It’s also adjacent to one of the dining halls on campus which is a great inconvenience in inclement weather!
